Something substantial need to happen engine wise, we're still having issues based on technical debt from early Destiny 2 and in parts Destiny 1. Still holding onto the unlikely thought that at some point they'll put together a QOL team whos sole job is to go through things and try to clean up the decade+ worth of technical debt/spaghetti code so we can hopefully stop running into previously patched issues reoccurring on a yearly basis [quote]Hell i've always thought the "2" after "Destiny" was a curse because everyone is indirectly being told that this game is one in a series when in reality Destiny runs as an MMO.[/quote] The intention was for it to be a series with 3+ games, they changed that idea prior to Beyond Light sometime during the Activision split

  • Might be a bit of ignorance on my end but what is some of the technical dept you are talking about? Because lets face it every game engine and every MMO has its inherent spaghetti; unless the problem is extreme i dont think a full reset is ever worth it even from a cost stand point for the devs. [quote]The intention was for it to be a series with 3+ games, they changed that idea prior to Beyond Light sometime during the Activision split[/quote] Oh right i forgot that whole Activision debacle. Well that pushes my point further; Bungie obviously wants to run destiny as an MMO and Activision have never sustained something that grand before. Lets not follow their COD esque inspired version/release pattern of Destiny. It sucks.

    For technical debt, it's mostly spaghetti code and shortcuts on fixes which result in fix time increasing in the future. 3 examples of things in the past that somewhat showcase the problem The restoration fix on Solar subclasses ended up taking 7+ months because of it being a bit deeper than they thought so it needed additional people to work on it. 7 months to rework a single mechanic shouldn't be a thing Last Wish for 18+ months was playing oracle sounds before Bungie got around to finally fixing it. The weasel error for character selecting was a problem over a year ago, it was fixed, then over the past month or so it's began reappearing again. The engine itself needs a QOL visit so fixes for problems can be pushed out more rapidly without temporary 'lets hope it fixes it' band-aid fixes like we had a few weeks ago with the invis character/weapons issue.

  • All fair things not gonna lie. Although those timeframes seem very long, for myself having come most recently from Elder Scrolls Online they dont surprise me. But then again i do acknowledge that is not normal. Hopefully they can get their stuff together. I fesr they had resources with activision but not the vision they wanted and now its vice versa.
