Thats because all the tryhards cried for SBMM to be removed without thinking it through to its logical conclusion.
Kids, be careful what you ask for because you just might get it.

Under sb periods we had half the playerbase despite the game being 2 years younger...sb nearly killed the game twice and was rightly removed

Well that's just wrong then lol. Shadowkeep isn't the last time we had SBMM, that was just before Beyond Light. DTR on Wayback machine says you're plain wrong. Bungie pulled SBMM 2020 11/6: https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/49254 Population in the gutter with SBMM? https://web.archive.org/web/20200517090230/https://destinytracker.com/ 667.0K, 2020 5/17 (before SBMM went). https://web.archive.org/web/20200613165320/https://destinytracker.com/ 2020-6/13 right after SBMM went: 502.4K https://web.archive.org/web/20210303220408/https://destinytracker.com/ 2021-3/3 331.8K https://web.archive.org/web/20220514040607/https://destinytracker.com/ 2022- 05/14 502.4K Today (2022-15/7) it's at 636k, and that's WITH an Iron Banner event ongoing, which is now a twice a season kinda thing. At the very least SBMM vs. CBMM did -blam!- all on population. All I see is that PvP SUCKS to play as it is right now, when it didn't back with SBMM.

Couldn't agree less, cbmm is far better matchmaking, especially for casual modes. If you want a competitive experience by all means head for the competitive modes that have the competitive matchmaking you prefer. But don't expect casual modes to be flipped upside down to accommodate the lower tiers in the playerbase
