A lot of the success of guardians basically is in our numbers and reading of combat situations. In fact, if you have ever died to the Fallen, Hive, or Vex in a darkness zone? Then you could be brought back, but the capability for a guardian to live is dependent on the situation not using a paracasual weapon to kill us. Weeks, months, years, etc. don't mean much, but our success within a throne world like Oryx for example is based on factors of luck. Dying there, wandering into area which can absorb light, etc. is what stops most guardians from getting there. But we did. I would add this though: Our guardian has flown below the radar on most things. Like with Cayde-6 or other guardians who have permadied? We don't rise to the challenge to be killed like that. I would say it is canon because some guardians are indeed more powerful than others, but you could also argue the opposite: Power is merely an element for which we bend our light or darkness capabilities. This would explain the changes to our subclasses for example. Or it could be the fun combination of both.

Well I spose you could say that light level is somewhat cannon however more so in a way of more time spent as a guardian = more time to practice bending the light and dark to your will to master already known abilities or create new ones. Now lore keepers please correct me if this is wrong but I also believe at some point in the lore Elsie Bray tells us the reason why she's keeping a close eye on us in the timeline of which D1 and D2 are set is because out of the thousands she's seen its the only when where we are the one/ a part of the group who defeat every major threat. This is the only timeline where we were there to kill atheon, crota, orxy, stop the Siva plague, defeat the red legion, defeat Riven and wield darkness without turning into a disciple. So I wouldn't say it's luck based most likely just that in all the multiverse there exists 1 instance of everyone at the absolute height of their power and that's the version of us we are playing

I havent heard the Luck theory. That IS the whole basis of Halo and MasterChief. That he seems to have impeccable Luck, which is why Cortana chose him as her partner. And explains some of his heroic results. But I haven’t heard about that for our Guardian.
