I'm no fashion expert myself, but who actually listens to these fashionistas/fashion/style experts on what to wear and what not to wear?

Like, what's wrong with oversized hoodies and why should I have to wear salmon-colored dress shirts? Y'all ever realize most of these fashion showcases have these people walking out wearing furniture? What makes their style better just because they jump on the newest crap? There might have been some bias there, but you know what I mean. What do you look for in your style? Do you actually ask yourself "Is it trendy?" "Is everyone else wearing this?" or "Is it simple and easy to put on?" "Will this look and fit comfortably regardless if society finds this as "outdated"?"
Erased....
• People with too much money are always looking for stuff to spend it on. Clothing shows off how much money they have. That's why they want the label on the outside, so that you'll know it's expensive. The people who don't do that are the super rich. They keep a low profile. There's an Italian suit maker that flies you to Italy and puts you up in a four star hotel while your suit is being fitted and made. The suits are around $30,000.

  • My “style” consists of carhart sweatshirts, jeans, and tennis shoes. In the summer, I wear thin cargo shorts, t-shirts, and tennis shoes. Quite frankly, I don’t care how I look. And yes, the “style” that these fashion people come up with is awful imo.

  • My normal attire consists of hiking boots, cargo pants/cargo shorts, and a T shirt (usually a funny one, I have many). If I need to step up a notch (such as for Mass) I'll throw a button-down work shirt over that. If I'm going biking or something then it's tennis shoes and full-blown athletic clothes. • I’m not going to pay a lot of money for clothing. One decent suit is the exception. Outside of socks and underwear, it’s honestly been a couple years since I even bought clothes. If it fits and isn’t too torn up, it’s good enough.

I go into a shop and I go “hmm I think that would look good on me”. Then, I buy whatever it is, go home, and put it on. It could be a salmon pinstripe suit or an oversized Star Wars Christmas t-shirt. What’s ‘in’ is pretty meaningless to me, because that usually just means it’s more expensive than what I think looks good. Funnily enough it’s actually quite difficult to not follow certain trends though, because that’s all they sell in clothes stores. Jeans for example. I have big legs but a slim waist and have to really shop around for jeans because I always ever seem to find ‘skinny fit’, ‘slim fit’ etc., which are all too tight for me. I actually don’t buy clothes often at all now, because I really am quite particular about what I like to wear, and 90% of the things I find are just bland overpriced tat. In terms of my actual style I like to keep a mix of stuff to suit my mood. Normally though dark trousers/jeans and some kind of statement top. Could be a metal t, or an oversized shirt with a Snoopy and Woodstock print, or some sleeveless thing if I’m feeling more attractive than usual.

    • Normally, I wear a pair of old jeans, and a black t-shirt that may or may not have a rock band logo or skulls on it, if its hot I may just wear some black shorts, throw on a monster energy logo hat and thats me! Fashion? I don't know who she is...

      • Fashion is dead, we killed it. Being a few years behind in a classy sort of way is the only option for staying afloat. You will never see me walk around in a lime green puffer jacket and purple tube top but according to the trends that’s what I should be wearing. Forget the fashion industry, it’ll make you cry. Wear comfortable clothes and add some color, that’s all you really need. My style is defined by 3 traits I look for: fit and flare, contrasting bright and neutral colors, and comfort. That’s it. I’m not in with trends, I think if I tried to be I’d lose it. Fit and flare is a huge deal for me. I’m super tall, super skinny. If I wear anything too tight I look like slenderman. I love baggy clothes, but it’s difficult to style bagginess in a way that looks sophisticated. For bottoms anything high-waisted goes. For tops it’s a similar deal. Cropped with mid length or wide sleeves. This pairing gives the illusion of me being a normally proportioned person. Throw on some boots and it’s more than perfect. Nothing I wear is currently “in” so to speak, but I don’t look out of place. I’m a stickler for oversized jackets, too much jewelry, oversized boots, huge button downs, and anything with big pockets. The “fit” makes me look put together, the “flare” brings comfort, contrasting depths, and a casual feel. Everything I own is comfortable enough and uniquely styled that I look like I put effort into my outfits when I really just curated a perfect wardrobe where anything goes together and I don’t have to think too hard about it.

        • I only trust 2 people with that. 1. The dude where I buy my suits. 2. The old lady seamstress where I buy my suits. If they say it looks like shit, and do this to fix it, I do that thing. Fashion itself is at best a side note. If I walk in off the street and they look horrified at my ripped jeans/ concert T/ sweats/ shorts and crew socks I take their advice on what to change. I just bought some pants there. Grabbed “my size” pants. Went and changed. Come out to get them marked for hem, and she was like “-blam!- that” and went and grabbed a different pair. I ended up buying the pair she grabbed me. She’s great. Still gotta go back for a hem, but that’s FA and the store is across the parking lot from a great Vietnamese place. Lesson learned: Don’t buy crap from Walmart. Actually go and get fitted for clothes by professionals. That goes for the ladies too!! Albeit they’re waaaaay better at doing their own clothes. Fashion is secondary to confidence. So says the big t****e goth girls.

You shouldn't need to listen to anyone or wonder if something is trendy to dress up. Honestly I don't really care if someone might consider the stuff I wear to be outdated. Some of the more recent trends are so stupid like when bucket hats were a thing, excessively layering your clothing, usually with huge denim jackets and who knows what else underneath, and now I guess it's sweatpants and baggy clothes in general. A lot of these trends are pretty trashy looking imo and are almost always geared towards younger people. Whatever "fashion" is, it doesn't exist anymore because most people almost exclusively "dress up" only to be comfortable. I actually prefer wearing lighter yet rougher materials since it keeps me more awake and aware and I find it easier to focus when I'm not covered in fluffy warm cotton all day. Obviously, if you're Lady Gaga or something then everything's different and you can wear all the furniture and meat dresses you want. My favorite outfits are denim cutoff shorts with the tassels or white khaki shorts with a solid color T/v neck or Hawaiian button ups. I really enjoy flashy stuff with cool patterns or bright colors. I also like some of the more dressy uppy stuff. For cold seasons, it's pretty simple I usually just go for gray or black pants with some kind of jacket

          • I never really understood the craze for following fashion trends. Personally I usually wear whatever I have nearby if I am feeling lazy. Which is most of the time, there are much more important things to think about than clothing. Plus, no one will really see me anyways. As of late I haven’t been going out to often. But when I do go in public I at least make sure to bring at least my blue wizard hat. Perhaps some robes or a cloak to, if the weather is nice and cold.

          • I wear what’s comfortable and practical, my friends describe it as old. T-shirts, jeans, and a jacket are my most common outfit. Maybe cargo shorts when it’s hot. I sometimes wear miscellaneous white shirts and sweat pants, though. Fashion is stupid.

          • I don’t give one about “fashion”. It’s all eye of the beholder. I legit dress like a 30 year old redneck. Jeans, t-shirts with pop culture references from 20 years ago, and a zip up jacket.

          • Ikr, the current trends look so stupid. It's completely socially acceptable to walk outside with jeans that look like they've eviscerated by a mountain lion, but every time i walk out in public in my bedsheet toga, i get weird looks.
