Honest question here but is there even a reason to use a kinetic weapon over an energy one? Aside from the Match Game modifier energy weapons are more useful.

Exactly my point. Energy primary weapons are just better, especially because most can roll with dragonfly. The problem is that if you want to use the really good energy primaries, you'll have to settle for bad kinetic specials.

由Kid Backstab編輯: 3/4/2021 4:07:56 PMThat 5% extra damage is literally nothing overall. Energy weapons do 2x damage against shields (that's 100% extra) where the energy type is unmatched, and 3x damage (that's 200% extra) when the energy type is matched. As an example, a the Fallen captain in Terminus East lost sector takes 2.67 seconds to remove the shield with a kinetic AR (450 rpm), and only 0.8 seconds with a matching energy AR. Ignoring the massive damage from the shield break explosion, you still get 1.87 seconds of energy AR fire before the kinetic breaks the shield. That's 14 shots at full damage. The extra 5% bonus from the kinetic will require 280 shots just to catch up. That's literally the entire reserve of the weapon. Even with non-matching energy, it would take nearly 220 kinetic shots to make up the difference. Unless you are facing unshielded enemies with huge amounts of hit points, kinetic weapons will always fall behind energy weapons of the same archetype. They need to do about 25% more damage to even have a chance of being useful in PvE compared to energy weapons.

Even with that large a boost, it would still take nearly 2 full seconds for the kinetic to catch up to the energy in damage against a shielded opponent. For most enemies, that means the energy weapon still would have already killed it. But, it would make kinetics quite useful at clearing unshielded yellow bars.
