The words "meaningful content" comes to mind.
The #1 rule is to never get attached to anything in this game. Mainly because this company has a bad habit of constantly changing things, and constantly nerfing the game to fit their needs and wants, not anyone else's.

You can't indefinitely buff gear for 5+ years That's unrealistic, nerfs are inevitable. Look at literally every game thats made to last more than a year or two. Warframe, elder scrolls online, final fantasy, borderlands, etc.

Besides that, using other games that most likely do a lot better job at adjusting weapons/gear versus Bungie isn't a good idea.

That's kind of a catch 22 isn't it? If Bungie is trying to incorporate meaningful loot that players shouldn't care about because it'll get trashed soon, how can that still be considered meaningful when people can't care about it?
-
Problem is loot isn’t going to be meaningful when they only fit specific archtype molds. They could sunset gnawing hunger tomorrow, and it’s still not going to make the newest 600 any more meaningful than “oh it’s the only viable 600”. Nothing really in the game is all that meaningful. Main reason why D3 would have been a better idea. At least at that point the weapons will have some sort of meaning.

It is, has been, and always will be an issue similar to that 600 archetype delima you mentioned until Bungie buckles down and stops trying to make Meta shifts work for the sake of Meta shifting. The only reason for buffs or nerfs should be to help find weapons a role to fill that compliments the game. For a long time I thought that was the point, but I guess Bungie just Buffs trash to godhood, and cuts god weapons down to mediocrity just to "shake things up" I was disappointed to learn that
