Possible new armor system?

So in the last few TWABs, there has been word of weapon and armor sunsetting and the introduction of only one new set of armor each year, for the core playlists, with each new expansion. Core playlists being strikes, gambit and crucible. This armor set can be acquired by playing any of those three activities, with each one offering shaders and skins for the armor. Aside from trials, iron banner and raids, these three having their own armor each year, is it possible the idea here is to have one armor set each year that you can build onto with various mods and elemental resistance, changing them out for whatever activity you are playing? You essentially can raise the power level and farm for higher stats by playing and having another piece drop from which ever activity, only costing you 1,000 glimmer to infuse since the armor is the same. Also to reduce the monotony of looking at the same armor all the time, you will be able to transmog older armor you have acquired or new activity specific ornaments to have that fashion and uniqueness for you character. So with each new year, expansion, the previous years armor will sunset and you will acquire the current years armor. With each new year bringing different mods and stats to grind and farm for to best suit that current years new activities. All the while still having old armor you can transmog to and new ornaments to transmog to. This seems to be an interesting system if my thought is in the ball park and not way of base. Trials, iron banner and raids could follow suit with their respective armor sets each year. This would solve vault space in terms of armor and still give the player choice and originality. You can still grind for the best armor statistics for that year without having to juggle a crap ton of inventory and vault space. As for weapon sunsetting, I have no idea and not too keen on it, but this armor system I would welcome if it was the case. Has anyone had the same thoughts or care to discuss it?

  • You're probably right that we most likely will need just a single set of armor we can adjust through mods etc if necessary. But I doubt it will be as cheap as 1k glimmer. We most likely gonna have to grind till the back sweat is dripping ಠ_ಠ

    • This would potentially eliminate upgrade modules and probably change the infusion process to glimmer and legendary shards, like old times. With the team only having to balance this one sets varied stat rolls and mods each year, it would give them an opportunity to go hog wild with designing armor ornaments and shaders for the activities without having to worry about the stats and balancing process. This could also be a way to to make older activities relevant the farther along the game we go. Feel like being nostalgic and want to ornament your armor to look like curse of osiris armor? Load up those activities and play for awhile.
