Any Advice On Taking Care Of A Fish?
So I got a betta fish named Cap’n to go with this cool mini, self preserving ecosystem that I got last Christmas.
I’ve been really nervous while taking care of it because fish are very fragile and one wrong move could get them killed in a day. Plus, this is my first time taking care of a fish.
Cap’n has been giving me quite a few scares. The morning after the day I got him, he stayed at the top of the tank for a long while. I learned that this was most likely because of oxygen problems and ammonia poisoning from over feeding.
I changed the tank water, and ever since then, he’s been staying in his little purple home I got him, only coming out to feed and sleep at the surface.
Today, the tank has gotten cloudier, and I learned that this is because of certain bacteria that aren’t too harmful and should pass away soon.
The mini ecosystem came with water plants that are supposed to suck up ammonia and other harmful chemicals. They are currently sprouting now and I think that they are doing their job a little already.
Does anyone else know of anything that I should know if I’m going to keep Cap’n alive? Any useful information will be rewarded with a cookie!

1 when changing his water, don't clean the decorations 2 change at most, only half of the water per water change. 3 a tiny pinch of salt (non iodized) is ok with a water change every now and then. 4 when you change the water, get the poop out of the bowl 5 a small bubbler couldn't hurt. It adds oxygen to the water. When the bubbles break the surface of the water it introduces oxygen into it. 6 get to know your fish, they all have different personalities. For example, If your fish is shy you'll become accustomed to it and know that that's just how your fish is and nothing is wrong with them.

1 回覆I have had multiple fish, they are finicky creatures, some may die the day after you got them, or others that seem like they will die, will live for 6 years with a tumor growing out of its face... [spoiler]this is why I prefer budgies...[/spoiler]

Hey alignment, it’s your friendly fish fact friend (yes I know, believe it or not I am still alive). Now I haven’t had fish per say but I’ve done husbandry work for labs before so I know what to keep an eye on! Firstly, especially now since your having water quality issues make sure to check the Ph of the water (I don’t know beta Ph range off the top of my head) as well as keep an eye on the temperature. Since our friend is a freshwater species you shouldn’t have to worry about checking salinity.
