Let's talk about Eververse and the economy therein.
Hello all, Day one, year one player here.
Destiny has seen a lot of changes, a lot of growth, and some other things over the last 5 years. One of the trends that began some time ago, was the introduction of cosmetic micro-transactions into the game. This was met with a mixed bag of feelings, as the game has changed and evolved, that mixed bag has gone back and forth between positive and negative multiple times.
All that being said, I truly think it has swung into the negative as far as it ever has following the release of Shadowkeep. The game changed from a model that rewarded players who took the time and put forth the effort to grind levels for a chance at one of those nice Cosmetic items that could drop from level to level; it wasn't a guarantee, but we got enough of them that anything we didn't get could be purchased with dust, or justifiably, through silver. That model, to our current, which gives very few engrams, engrams that, at least for me, have had terrible drop rates; a model that demands an asinine amount of currency to buy very little.
When Bungie split from Activision, there were many of us in the community that blamed Activision for the greedy approach that had crept into the game at certain intervals in its development, especially during Destiny 2's release and expansions. I must apologize to Activision, as that does not seem to be the case. The current store is completely unacceptable. Especially taking into consideration the previous iterations of said store, and the fact that the game is indeed charging a price for full content admission. I can understand if there was a limitation on free-to-play accounts, that required them to purchase silver to buy most cosmetics, as a means to earn support for the game. However, for those that purchased the title, to suffer under the same store front, and same price gouging model that exists right now, is a slap in the face to loyal fans.
I am disappointed in you Bungie. Any desire I had to show further support via the purchase of Silver is gone now. I thank you for the game itself, and the return to the moon, however, I have lost my faith in your intentions towards the player base yet again.
Feel free to discuss Destiny community. What do you all think?
This is the fate of multiplayer games, to be the new mobile games. Single player is slower but inevitable. No longer, it seems, that companies can rely on: different editions to games, merchandise, DLC, it’s all about microtransactions
