I was so intrigued by the concept of the game when it released that I picked it up and actually enjoyed it for a while before its reptititivness began to really show. Traded it in as a result, and I never thought I'd revisit it, because to be honest I imagined that the company would have been entirely ruined by their failure, and the subsequent fallout.
Fast forward to now, and its it's nice to know Murray truly believed in his vision. The guy likely knew it was possible from early on, and he was committed to seeing it through. Same goes for those on the dev team who stuck it out as well.
Evidently though, he projected the development timeline poorly, and was so hyped by his own vision, that he was more interested in getting people to buy the concept he believed in before it came to fruition. The epitome of putting the cart before the horse, I guess.
But with everything that has been added, I'm tempted to have a go at it again, and on the marketplace right now its going for about 30 bucks.
So, anyone here giving it another go? Anyone actually stick with it this entire time? Thoughts?

Had it since launch and only put 30hrs into it. Tried it earlier with the VR update started a new game, and it has improved massively. It's as if the game was designed for VR. Totally immersed for 5 hrs, definitely be returning.

No Man’s Sky is a survival game, and exploration game and a sandbox game (Minecraft in Space) rolled into one. Where you literally have an Universe sized sandbox to play in. If you looking for a game that is about human drama or gives you a tightly scripted experience? You’re going to be bored. But if you like games you can play creatively, and a game that will surprise (and frustrate) you in a thousand little ways? Yes it’s worth it. I think we’re getting the game they wanted to make on Wednesday but weren’t given the time needed.

I gave it a second shot and I thought it was pretty good, even after the big update that they released. Though the fact that they continued to work on the game even after Sony abandoned them and everyone criticized the game for being a buggy mess, they still worked on the game and eventually made it a pretty good game imo.

I own the game, disappointed isnt really the word that I felt about it. Tried giving it a 2nd chance but just couldnt really get into it. A problem I found with the game after the fixes is you could start on a planet and actually be stuck there cause of some resource you need isnt on the planet. Did a restart and just dod want to trove around a planet in the beginning just redource farming. I say give it a 2nd chance, you might like it. In my case, it wasnt exactly what I thought I wanted from the game. Havent played it since.

Played it at launch and once they did the big update. It's definitely better (not hard, but still.) More filled out, bases, freighters, more thought out resource pricing and amount. Still has the same problems, every planet after a while fits into one of their cookie cutter formats. You end up just doing the same shit over and over, fun for awhile but gets boring quickly. Worth a try if you like exploring and base building.

He fell into the mindset that everybody falls into when they first start developing. Basically his timeline was too ambitious and burnt out before his vision for the game could be fully realised. But it still shows his aspiration, yet it is still a little flat after extended gameplay. If you’ll look at any forum for videogame mod support since the inception of player-developed mods (Doom, Unreal Tournament, Halo Custom Edition, etc.) There are aspiring content creators with a big vision that announce a huge project and don’t give themselves a realistic timeline to do such projects and they never get off the ground. Even teams as big and well-managed as CMT failed on their Halo 2 Custom edition project, despite the success of the Halo 1 SPv(x) projects. It’s a shame, because given the right conditions the potential to fully realise the dream is there, yet the patience often is lacking.

I haven't played it since a month or so after the Next update, but it's gotten a hell of a lot better. The Beyond update looks pretty interesting as well. The game definitely benefits from the added multiplayer functionality.

Honestly I really want to dive back in, pretty much abandoned it at launch(hardly surprising) I am impressed that they have managed to keep working away and improving it. Alot of the stuff does seem great for multiplayer but I play pretty much solo so its not really geared for me I dont think.

I couldn’t tell you how it compares to release but I enjoyed it a lot for a while. I loved the game initially but after about 20-30 hours fatigue set in and I lost interest. I keep meaning to go back to it but I realised I’ve forgotten everything. It’s like trying to learn everything from scratch again.
