Destiny 2: 6/7 Weapon Varieties per Weapon Type, 10 weapon slots per Type, Room for engrams?

If there are 6 Kinetic and Energy Weapon varieties (Scout, Pulse, Auto, Hand Cannon, Sidearm, SMG) and 7 for Power Weapon (Sniper, Fusion, Shotgun, Rocket Launcher, Grenade Launcher, Swords, Linear Fusion Rifle) then there will be a LOT of weapons that people want to run with on their person. I know that not everybody runs with every type of weapon on them, but people will want to have enough legendaries to run several different loadouts, and exotics for fun and DPS, etc. I can imagine people will likely be around 8 or 9 weapons in each slot at that point. Of course, that is mostly talking about the end-game level of weapons. I'm sure a lot more people will be running just what they get their hands on and enjoy during the initial phase. But End-game is important for this observation. With 8 or 9 weapons in each slot that we'll be wanting to run with (personally I'll likely want 4 exotics and 4 or 5 legendaries in each slot so I have differing range types for legendaries and differing abilities for exotics) then there will not be much room in our gear slots for engrams. Thankfully many engrams go to the postmaster, but that currently has a fill point. Does anybody else see a problem here, or am I just a bit nuts? I know that currently extra engrams of a certain level are sent to the postmaster, so we don't really NEED to run with engram space, but storing and removing items from the vault all the time in order to open engrams is pretty annoying. Personally, I think having a list of engrams at the Cryptarch would be a good way to solve this, as engrams would not have to be programmed as inventory items. The list/tally could simply record what engrams of what type have been collected and the player can choose when to open them. THat would even save on vault space if players want to stock up on engrams. A new list could be added for DLC releases so that if Light Level rises the old engrams can't be stored to power level upon release (which Bungie has largely avoided). And instead of recording individual engrams then a small programming equation could change per character (or better yet, account, so that engrams are technically "transferable") and the tally is easily recorded. Now, that might take away from the fun of getting engrams if they're recorded to the list whenever they drop, regardless of being picked up, but Bungie could make it a requirement for them to be picked up in order for them to show up at the Cryptarch, and then people would actively engage with the engrams found in world more than they do even now. And then people could run with 10 weapons in each slot at all times and not have to worry about engrams. We'd actually be able to take full advantage of our inventory size.

  • Not really sure how this differs from now considering many folks keep extra gear as a means of storage. Plus, I think this a problem for a minority of people. Most people have their likes and dislikes. I personally don't use ARs, so I'm not going to have any on me if I don't have to. And like D1, presumably, any engrams not picked during the mission will be available at postmaster. Now if we could just delete from postmaster, that would be an upgrade!
