Well obviously if you where too close to the target you where within the max dmg zone regardless if the perk was on or not.
Or if you where to far and was always outside the guns effective range.
As far as I remember, the range stat only affects how far out a gun retains its max effective dmg, so a higher range stat doesn't affect dmg in itself.

There's no way I was too close. If anything maybe I was outside of effective range, so maybe that was it. But it wasn't that far away. Like, in the area where the fallen walker drops on public events, I was on the building in the back and shooting at the sniper guy that spawns on the building in the middle. Is that too far away? I hope not.

Dang. Hand cannons are my favorite weapon, I was hoping that with max range they would still be somewhat effective at medium-ish range. If you need to get that close to do damage you might as well move another 5 feet closer and not use any range perks at all.

Well, I always went for the range perks, but it seems like it makes so little of a difference, especially for PvE. In PvP maybe that tiny little range boost is helpful in certain situations but I don't play PvP that much. Thanks for the info, dude! I'll think twice before dismantling a handcannon that doesn't have range perks on. Cheers!
