The Tower Breached: A Destiny Fanfic

I would like to share with you all a totally impromptu Destiny fanfic that mrpatriot and I co-wrote, in response to the following scenario posed by ItsMihali: A Hive seeder crashes into The Tower; what do you do? You're attending one of the daily Tower dance-parties when all if a sudden, a black speck appears in the sky above you. This spectacle is rapidly growing in size and you hear the echoes of an otherworldly screech emanating from it. You recognise the green haze that surrounds it too late, as it has just crashed into your Guardian safe haven and hoards of Hive pour from its centre. You are armed with one weapon; the firearm strapped to your back. All other participants of the dance-party have been crushed, tragically, beneath the alien Seeder and you seethe with a vengeful drive. Which gun accompanies you, what is your course of action and how do you go about commemorating your friends' dancing skills? Squibsallotl My one gun is Red Death. I'm running Defender with Unbreakable and Relentless. I yell out a challenge to the Hive. "You think you have breached the walls of our Tower. You are wrong. *I* am the wall of the Tower. And I will not be broken." I punch the first Thrall to reach me in the face, draining his energy to fuel a damage shield that envelops me. It drains the Darkness of nearby Hive, regenerating itself against the incoming gunfire. Red Death hums in my hands, hungry for life essence, healing me as it kills the enemy. When my barrier fails I invoke Ward of Dawn, creating my own cover. Knights arrive, brandishing their blades eagerly. A magnetic grenade finds the first, wiping the grin off the rest. I dash toward a nearby Thrall, whose decrepit features register a momentary look of surprise before I smash it in. Force barrier re-envelops me, and I turn and fire at the approaching Knights. I kill one, two, but the rest surround me and lash out with their heavy blades. I trade punches until the barrier fails, then jetpack up out of the melee at an angle to gain some distance. Wizard and Ogre artillery catch me mid-flight, searing armor and flesh, but I survive the barrage just long enough to reach cover. While the Knights are ambling forward to close ground, I rapidly kill some nearby Acolytes with quick bursts of Red Death fire, and my wounds begin to close. The next forerunner knight meets a new grenade, forcing the others to scatter as he explodes. My Ward has recharged, and I invoke it again to create a momentary respite. I smile confidently at the remaining Knights, who amble into the protective circle to meet my fists, my knees, and the butt of my rifle. By the time the Ward fades, they are dead in piles around my feet, and the Wizards and Ogres are screaming in fury. I smile back at them. "I will accept your surrender now if you wish. Or shall we continue?" mrpatriot As the fight unfolds in the courtyard, another figure approaches the spectacle. I had been discussing the most recent Strike with Zavala in the Hall of Guardians, and went outside to investigate the commotion. I walked with an air of Aggression as I went, undoubtedly habit as a long time Striker. My Invective was strapped to my back, but it was soon in my hands as the full realization of the events transpiring hit me. My eyes quickly fell on the lone Titan, standing defiantly in his Ward, and my Fists were charged with Lightning, and bearing down on the crowd of Ogres, Wizards, and stray Knights before I realized that I was indeed going to use the Fist of Havoc, and I was going right into the middle of a crowd of very, very angry Hive. Wait, where did my Invective go? I shelved that thought for now as I inexplicably decided to yell out as loud as possible "ALLOW ME TO JOIN THE FRAY!!!!" This was directed at no one in particular, but it caught the attention of the large crowd of Hive beneath me, just in time for them to witness my arrival, and their demise as my Fist of Havoc impacted the ground, creating a massive explosion of Lightning unequalled in all the system. The Hive around me all dissolved in brilliant, sparking fashion, and the air was so charged by the remnants of their energy that it began to discharge small lightning bolts in random directions within a cyan haze. It was at that moment I remembered that Invective was still missing. I looked to where I had come from, and found it lying on the ground opposite of the Crashed Seeder, near the entrance. It was also at that moment that a massive horde of angry Thrall poured out of the Seeder, seeking vengeance for their slain masters. The course of action was obvious. I proceeded to Punch, Smash, and Suplex my way through the horde of Thrall, using their bodies as giant clubs whenever I got my hands on them, although their habit of dissolving into ash made this tactic problematic and not very useful, forcing me to resort to my Fists again. The brawl continued in this fashion for about three minutes straight, at the end of which I had successfully made it to the other side of the mob via another Fist of Havoc, and recovered my Invective. To my delight, it was fully loaded and ready to go, although the same could not be said about my health, which had reached critically low levels during the melee. I then proceeded to bash and blast my way through the mob again to reach the Ward that was oh so close and yet so far away. I wonder if that other Titan is still there... See the replies to this topic for the full story, it was too long to post in a single thread. I hope you all enjoy it as much as we enjoyed writing it :)

Intent on projecting an air of absolute, unflappable calm to the Hive raining destruction down on my soon-to-evaporate Ward, I am taken completely by surprise by the sudden shout from the other side of the room. "ALLOW ME TO JOIN THE FRAY!" I can only stare dumbfounded as a horde of Hive disintegrate into glittering orbs of Light around the lone aggressor. Surprise turns to relief, and I raise my fist in a salute the other Titan cannot see, surrounded on all sides as he still is. My Ward vanishes, but the attention of the Hive commanders has been diverted; my comrade is suddenly the sole focus of their ire. Unarmed, he begins punching his way back toward the Seeder, which looks suicidal until I see a glittering, discarded shotgun lying on the ground. I raise the sights of Red Death and begin providing cover-fire, aiming for the tall heads of Knights pushing their way towards the Striker. Bursts of precision fire cause them to flinch just long enough for him to gain ground, using Thralls as clubs as he draws closer to his weapon. I can feel tension rising in my gun, as I deprive it of kills in order to rapidly switch from target to target. "Just hold on, my friend. You will drink deep soon enough." The lone Striker reaches his weapon, and the concussions of shotgun blasts begin to echo throughout the chamber. He begins fighting his way back to my position - no doubt expecting a Ward to provide life-saving cover when he gets here - and my Light is practically extinguished. That Ward needs to be there, or we're both toast. I grit my teeth. It's time to take a risk. I sprint forward, smashing a Thrall in the face along the way to envelop myself in an over-shield. I head right for the centre of the pack, all the angry Knights I'd been distracting howling for my blood by this stage. I strap Red Death to my back to free my arms, and begin battering my way through bodily, taking a horrific beating along the way. There is no cover up ahead, nothing but rank upon rank of Hive... ...and a glittering impact crater of Orbs of Light around the Striker's first victims. My over-shield breaks. I keep running. My armour cracks and I can't help but yell as my vision begins to go red with my own blood. I keep running. A dozen Thralls swarm me, their arc-powered talons raking deep wounds along my sides as I struggle through. I can see the other Titan up ahead, fighting valiantly back towards me, Wizard and Ogre fire blasting him and their own allies alike. A Knight stands in my path, roaring with victory as he levels a horizontal slash with sufficient force to take my head off. I keep my momentum, running straight at the decapitating blade... and drop to my knees and slide just under it, into the field of glittering Orbs. Light fills me, and with both arms outstretched I invoke a new Ward with a shout. A fresh barrier surrounds me, not a moment too soon, and I unlimber my rifle again and appease its hunger. The Striker reaches me and dives into the fresh Ward, hot on the trails of Wizard and Ogre fire. We each heave a sigh and look at each other. I raise a fist in salute. "Greetings, Titan. I almost feel pity for these Hive. They had very little chance of success before, and now they have none." I grin, my own blood caking the corners of my mouth. mrpatriot I stand in the fresh Ward, breathing heavily from the carnage that had just unfolded. My vision was blurred yet clean; fatigue was clearly beginning to take its toll on me. Of course, this was now irrelevant as I stood in the invincible new Haven that was fresh on the ground, Beautiful Orbs lying all around me. They reacted well with my Insurmountable Skullfort, and soon my health was completely restored to prime condition. My Invective had once again stocked itself completely. I remembered why taking that extra, confusing mission from Ikora turned out to be the best idea ever. My gaze then fell on my ally, and I saluted back. "Indeed friend, these Hive picked the-" my sentence was interrupted by a lone Knight armed with a sword who had foolishly decided to enter the Ward in an attempt to remove us from our stand. He received a Face full of Solar Buckshot in response to his offense. My feet did not move, and I was holding the Shotgun one handed. "-the worst possible day to drop a Seeder on the Tower. I say we punish these idiots for their poor planning and insult to architecture, what do you say?" I then noticed he was running low on ammo for that Blood Soaked Rifle he was using. It then occurred to me that he was pegging more enemies from afar while I was in the middle of the earlier Battle Royale. Damn, that's a Helluvan accurate rifle It used the same frame as an Auto Rifle, though it's accuracy made it impossible for the rifle to be one, and I fortunately still had some Ammo clips for my own, similar rifle on my belt, so I offered them up to him, "Here, take these, you look like you need them." The ammo was well received. I then had an idea. I took the sword from the now Dissolved Knight off the ground. It was decidedly heavy, but entirely usable. Invective now once again slung on my back, and health fully restored, I once again charged back into the mass of seething foes, slaying the first Knight I saw in one fell swoop.
