If you've beaten Crota you've killed a Taken. Maybe the reason that Oryx is so upset that Crota is dead is because he was the [b][i][u]FIRST[/u][/i][/b] of the Taken. That would explain why he looks similar to them but is also more powerful.

Exactly. He's the youngest because he was created the most recently. The other Hive gods are probably more like Oryx instead of Crota. The way in thinking of it because Oryx favored Crota he ascended him into a god. He is now using a lesser version of this ability to create an army to fight against us.

The way I'm thinking of it all of the Taken are the children of Oryx. They are all his creations after all. I believe that he favors Crota because he is one of the first Taken. He might not have to Take them in order to gain their obedience, but it does give them a substantial increase in power.
