My first religion shitpost ever. I thank everyone but hold your applause.
Continuing on. Atheists should not be allowed to celebrate christmas and Easter. They don't believe in Christ and that's what those holidays are centered around. It's hypocritical to deny god but take part in his holidays.
Bottom line. No Christmas or Easter for atheists.

Lol those holidays themselves are pagan holidays .... It's not about celebrating Easter or Christmas it's what they stand for ..... Jesus's birth and resurrection. Don't idolize something that is meant to be a distraction from what it really is. Now I'm a Christian and celebrate those holidays because of tradition but I never distract my family or kids from the real reason for the season .... Jesus. My opinion.

I said this numerous times - the entire calendar should be re-written. No Christmas but have New Year celebrations instead. No Easter, but have spring festival instead. If you want to celebrate something religious - you can do so.

由Bookey_Badger編輯: 5/10/2015 2:16:40 PMWhy can't I celebrate them? I'm pretty sure Santa and the easter bunny aren't in the bible.
though it wouldn't be surprising if they were, since one 'God' creating the entire universe is just as fictional.
由ReignofSpartain編輯: 5/11/2015 1:34:40 AMNobody even celebrates Christmas for the right reasons anymore. It's pretty much a sales thing for businesses. More like merry sales day. They practically devote that whole quarter to Christmas and expect high sales then dry spring. People do it for gifts not the religion.... Funny thing many Christians go only on Christmas and Easter and think they feel good about themselves then walk out saying "I really want to go more" then they don't
just saying
由Fire Bird 120編輯: 5/10/2015 10:37:01 PM-blam!- that, do you know how many millions of people a year just put up a tree and put presents under the tree? Literal Millions. Christmas has transcended Christianity. But you may have Easter
-
Basically, if you take all of the religious stuff out of christmas, the church, praying, nativity scene, angels on the tree, etc., its still great to give gifts to and spend time with the people you care about. I don't take part in any of those things, so I'm not really celebrating Christmas, but I receive and give presents and spend time with my family.

Okay, so if that is the case, why do Christians celebrate these festivals, in much the same way that Pagans celebrated Yule/ Sol Invictus/ Saturnalia, and Easter? The exchanging of gifts, decorating houses, Christmas trees, eating and drinking yourself silly, are all traditions dating back to pre Christian times. Christians should do none of that, if they are to be strictly observant. Christmas to Christians should be a time of fasting and abstinence. Easter or Eostre is the name of a Germanic goddess associated with hares, eggs, and most of the imagery of Easter. I don't really mind what Christians do, but when they celebrate Christmas and Easter like Pagans, they have no grounds to tell Atheists what to do.
-
Newsflash...we don't. We gather with our families since the government gives people the day off for Christian holidays. Which is another problem altogether. Also, do your research would you? Christians stole their "lore" from the pagan society who came before them. Theologians have known this for a very long time. Why do you think Christmas is in December? Heck, they even stole the virgin birth story.

由Crock mocket編輯: 5/10/2015 2:58:48 PM2011: It's edgy and cool to be atheist and call out Christianity. 2015: It's edgy and cool to be (?????) and call out atheists. All year, every year: People are just self righteous jerks trying to make a reputation without actually considering their own beliefs.
