It depends on where you live. Minimum wages in the US are VERY low, around $7.25. Canadian minimum wage is higher, at around $10.50. UK is going up every year around £4.50, but that still isnt very good at all.
If you work at McDonald's and want to make more money, either change jobs or vote for a different party in the next federal election, they might be able to bring the minimum wage up a bit.

由lmdinosaur编辑: 11/6/2014 6:35:02 PMCute you put asterisks around shortage, as if implying I made it up :P I remember politicians and parties running and their platform would be "I'll bring 1000 more doctors to Canada". Are you implying you are 17? Not that it really matters, but it would explain why you may not be aware of the terrible doctor shortage Canada had 5-10ish years ago.

How long did you live in Canada? And its funny because the US is the only western country without public health care. You can see a doctor anytime in Canada! Just book an appointment. Easy. Need emergency treatment? They tent to the people in the most need first. Not the people with the most money. Obviously there arent doctors in less populated places, but thats just because there arent very many people in Canada, as compared to America. I cant seem to come to any instance where me, or someone i know, has had difficulty finding a doctor.

由lmdinosaur编辑: 11/6/2014 6:53:50 PMI lived in Canada for 5 years. My fiance at the time was fighting cervical cancer. We lived in Edmonton (not a rural area). Cervical cancer killer her mother within 3 months of being diagnosed. It was 9 months after they first found something "suspicious" where she was first in an operation to remove the cancer. Her appointments were regularly 1-2 months apart, and had to wait 3-4 weeks for the operation once she was ready for it, because the doctors did not have enough time. They continuously gave her the earliest appointment possible, but it was always a long time away. I remember at one point she was sick (with something else). She called in to book a regular checkup for the illness, they said the earliest appt was in 10 days. I told her not to bother, she'd be dead or over it in 10 days.

由Spartan 22O编辑: 11/6/2014 6:58:57 PMWell, on the contrary, I live in Vancouver, and my dad ended up passing out so we called an ambulance(yeah, ambulances are free). Turns out he needed a quintouple bypass surgery, soon, or else he was going to die. Even though we allegedly have a shortage of doctors, they got him in for surgery within two days. Sorry to hear about you mother in law by the way. God bless

True, but so are you, if you're subscribed to a private health insurance company, much more than the Canadian tax payer. If you're not, then it will be rediculously expensive. The problem with health care in the US is that it's an industry, not really about helping people.
-
True. There are many problems with health care as it stands right now. The problem is, nobody seems to address the real problems, just the symptoms. Experience has shown me that government is one of the least efficient entities on the planet, so I don't think handing them control of the health system is the answer.

For clarification, I am not saying the Canadian health system is bad. I realize that different areas of Canada can easily have different qualities of care (much like in the US). With no health insurance in the US, i've been able to get a kidney stone removed, and been in for regular check ups for a very very marginal fee ( like 30 bucks or free per appt ). But taxes (both on items and on your paycheck) are much much higher than in the US. So its not really anywhere near a "free" health care system. I guess my over all point is I don't see one as better or worse, just different. I prefer the options the US health care system gives me.

由Spartan 22O编辑: 11/6/2014 7:27:16 PMI agree that it depends on the region/city/whatever. Sure the taxes are higher, but you are medically covered for cheaper than partnering up with private health. You can, nowadays in Canada, actually choose to go private if that's what you really really want, by the way, but nobody does it because its way more expensive.
