Say what you will about the more recent call of duty releases, but they still maintain the highest populations and sales. I'd say it's because they carry on the arena shooter more successfully than any other franchise

It is not an arena shooter, CoD is the exact opposite of one. Arena shooters have fixed weapon spawns on timers that work to promote map control. They have the same starts for everyone so people are exactly that even off of spawn.

Erm, no. It's not an arena shooter at all. That's not even what defines an arena shooter. An arena shooter is a shooter where everyone is on equal footing a la Halo 1-3/4 Legendary, Quake, Counterstrike, UT, etc. Call of Duty is an unlock based, [i]arcade[/i] shooter. Halo 4's base multiplayer is an arcade shooter. Battlefield is an arcade shooter.
