I laughed. It was a pretty interesting scene. It looked like Del Rio was power hungry, he was captain of a flagship. Whatever he wanted done, got done. Now, this outsider comes in and is stopping him from doing what he wants. He is used to having power and people always obeying him, he snaps because of this. He gets angrier and angrier as he realizes there is literally nothing he can do to stop the chief or sway his mind.

  • It's protocol to destroy an AI that's going rampant. He wasn't power hungry or anything during that scene. The MC was being completely insubordinate and selfish. But of course 343 has to make the Capetian look like the bad guy through the whole game. Even though he was looking out for the ship and his crew.

  • he was putting Earth at risk to protect his precious ship. MC is one of the most decorated soldiers in the UNSC and a the savior of humanity. He does not hallucinate. While, he was technically within his rights to deactivate Cortana, he was being an obstinate dick by dismissing Chief and Cortana's claims. Chief didn't just save Cortana for her sake (although I'm sure that was part of it), he did it because without her he would not be able to stop the Didact.
