As a former wrestler who still stays involved in the sport, this is all I've seen on Facebook for the last two days. But how about the rest of you? Have you heard anything about this through your typical news channels? If so, do you care?

I think they should get rid of ping pong before they get rid of wrestling. Wrestling is one of the only sports in the olympics that is a true test of strength between two people. I bet the viewers would increase on the female side if they wrestled like they did in ancient greece.

1 回复Screw the IOC for this, it shouldn't be about TV ratings, it should be about showcasing and determining the world's best athletes; and there are very few sports I can think of that do this better than wrestling.

2 回复Made the same thread yesterday. But yes it is completely ridiculous, I'm honestly dumbfounded by it. Unfortunately it isn't mainstream enough to get a lot of media attention, it had a minute and a half segment on sportscenter yesterday and that was all.

Heard about this. Really, really shitty decision IMO. I suppose it comes down to not being the most spectator friendly sport, but it still seems there were plenty of other sports that air at 3am that even less people gave a shit about. It should always be included simply because of the history behind it.

1 回复That's bullshit. As someone who wrestles, and just won a match a few hours ago, I want to put the IOC in a headlock.

1 回复It's pretty ridicules, why not take out Equestrian, or that part of Rhythmic Gymnastics where they twirl ribbons instead?

I really think there were many sports that deserved to be removed before something as classic as wrestling. That being said, I don't typically watch all that much of the Olympics outside of gymnastics and some of the running, so I don't care too much.

I hadn't heard of this, no. And even though I'm not in to the sport in any capacity, I find this decision shocking. Wrestling was one of the original Olympic sports. It's a staple of the Olympics at this point. What next? Javelin? Discus?
