Massive rose-tinted glasses on this one.
House of Wolves was MID. It’d barely hold up as a mediocre season nowadays.
Taken King itself was great but there was nothing to do for months. Not to mention the horrible PvP meta that plagued the game until the April Update. And the April Update literally added nothing…
Forsaken was good but it had one of the most brutal leveling curves we’ve had since vanilla d1. This made 1/2 the game unapproachable for the vast majority of players. This wasn’t fixed until Black Armory fixed a massive amount of the issues - 4 months later.
Rise of Iron was good, I’ll agree with that.
Plus Vanilla D2 and CoO were both before Bungie split.

Trials was fairly fun but didn’t move the needle for unless you were a PvP sweat. PoE was novel. That’s it. The actual gameplay was mid at best. No weapons to chase in PvE activities. Still had vanilla D1’s horrible light level system (which made Trials so much worse. Taken King did so much for the playlist) I can understand the others (even if disagree that they’re better than more recent expansions) but House of Wolves was so mid it’s funny

Lmao. Forsaken’s solid. People just tend to gloss over the big issues with it. Taken King was great but it had a massive content drought and a horrible PvP meta. If it had modern support it’d be better. RoI holds up great. House of Wolves would be mid. Case in point: Revenant. It was literally house of wolves 2.0 with an exotic mission and Onslaught tacked on and people dunked on it. It even had a massive trials revamp that lasted 2 weeks.
