Back in the day amateur athletes whether in college or even in the Olympics were not eligible to be paid for their fame. Today though Olympic athletes make bank.
College athletes were never to be given money to play by anyone, for their student status was deemed as inadmissible for the money would corrupt the sports. Well we all know how that turned out.
... Well I mean the pros get paid for their work, I don't understand why the students (who probably need the money a lot more) shouldn't be allowed to...

Again, it's an old rule. It had been grandfathered in for decades. It's not like the teams didn't let star players in college get under the table money, trips, things, women for hire,....
I read just the other day where a college football team that won their division nationwide (not even top tier) where they are being forced to return the trophy and are being stripped of the title, and losing 2 years of eligibility to play all because the coach loaned his car to 2 players when they needed one for something. That's BS. It's not like he gave then the car or was baiting them into playing with it.
Kindness gets you nowhere in sports. Only corruption.
Because the NCAA doesn’t want to directly pay players because they are “student athletes”. They have really strict rules about athletes making any money in college. I remember there was a Boise State running back a few years back that was almost suspended because he was selling beanies he was knitting.
But the NCAA is doing this because California made it illegal to profit off an athletes likenesses without compensating them. So the NCAA needed to do this to avoid legal trouble with Cali.
