That's why he was the Vanguard. This guy killed Cayde easily. What is Zavala going to do, send the JV Hunter after the guy that killed the best? Very likely to be emotional and running straight into a trap? In what world does that logically make sense? Despite knowing one of his best friends just died, he had to take a step back and be real - this is not a simple "I'm going to go kill him" sort of mission. Let's say you did walk into the trap, got yourself nuked. What does that do to the morale of humanity? The hero of the Red War, Last City's saviour and all around bastion of hope for the people got tricked into a trap and killed. What hope is there for the rest of us? We are all doomed. Our own hot-headedness would have cost us total extinction. Zavala was the only one thinking with their brain, everyone else just fell into the mindless screeching, and nearly cost us everything.
