Only anime I've ever watched was SAO cause the concept interested me...
...Such a cool concept and such a failure of an execution, wish I'd done research into reviews before just going and watching it...
I don't say this lightly (because, well, none of my writing has become a franchise) but If I was in control of it I'm confident I could have told a significantly better story

I would’ve given it an “okay” rating if it wasn’t for that obnoxious ending. They had a revive item! Why did Kirito have to revive with sheer willpower!? Just use the Jamblasted revive! But it definitely wouldn’t be good even if they did that.

Nice that I'm not the only one who noticed that they could have just used that item rather than the stupid force of will plot device If the entirety of act 2 in season 1 didn't happen and they just stuck to SAO my review of it would be better

Seriously. Like, I highly doubt there wasn’t anyone else who wanted to live. On the topic of good ideas getting botched in the second act, who the heck thought a love triangle between the protagonist, her adopted brother, and her biological brother was a good idea!? The first half of Vampire Knighy was great, but the second half is just like.. What?

Probably the same person who ok'd everything in that second part, but that definitely stands out as one of the biggest mistakes. My biggest complaints for act 2 were the antagonist being one of the worst antagonists I've ever seen in fiction. He was a generic "imma take over the world with mind control" villain, except when he didn't have any real strength. My other issue was taking asuna from a fierce fighter to imprisoned was a poor decision
