I think they are in a relatively good spot, where not everyone has access to all of the exotics, and when you get one it feels great.

across multiple reports it looks like you get better rng for less time played than those who play alot then add in that there is little reward for time and effort put into playing i think they need to put in a slight increase to drop rates not like launch of d2 but a tad higher than what it is now or update xur to have new exotics aswell

I have yet to see actual evidence for that. In fact I've seen the opposite reported. As far as the drops, I agree they need to address duplicates, but I've given my logical reasoning behind why drop rates are good, if you read the other comments you can see my reasoning.
