I don't think it really would be in the crucible. But it can already be insanely op in pve. Voidwalker, ophidian aspect, embrace the void, and the hunger. Never run out of grenades. And if void burn is on, o shit
It's not like it'd be too widely used to get nerfed. Lots of people probably wouldn't even touch it because of losing their super i really don't think it'd be overused to the point of them changing it
That's only when running a certain build on a voidwalker. Ophidian aspect, greatly improved energy drain. The hunger perk increases energy drain duration. Embrace the void allows energy drain to trigger on grenade kills.
Combine that with max discipline, in this case you have insanely fast grenades. In pve. This build isn't as reliable in pvp because in order to get the most out of it you have to reliably get grenade kills, and be able to hit a melee and survive if you can't.
I don't know the void hunter tree by heart, but i don't remember perks that would allow for the kind of regen that voidwalker does. And the smoke grenades would be on the melee timer.

Melee energy on grenade hits.
Grenade energy on melee hits.
Key word hits. Not kills.
Add tier 5 discipline
Add tier 5 strength
Boots that give agility on void kills.
Run the full energy drain skill tree.
Axion nades.
Helmet that gives you grenade energy.
Some weapons with grenadier.

Most of my helmets have bonus super energy perks. At least those that have the dis/str i need.
But that's basically how i run it. Except i usually have something with battle runner too.
The probably is the helmets they have perks like ash to assist(grenad kill give super )if they do what you say it not give super it be(grenad kill give grenad and melee) some grenad kill is easy also frost EE5 with full dis and str is like 13 seconds recharge and you still can pickup orbs
