Vendors should reset so we get some variety. I would say every three weeks is good, or the week before iron banner.
I'm speculating here, my guess as to why they don't reset now is because bungie uses those rolls as a marker to encourage players to try the gun and then if they like that gun, then grind for hours to get a different roll.
For a while at the end of year 1 Bungie let us reroll legendary guns. But that was taken away because the crucible was.....well the crucible....where in a world of guns players rerolled till they got that one god roll of the same gun everyone else was using and that was pretty much it.
I am guessing here that bungie doesn't want players to stop grinding for rolls they like because internally as a company they are rewarded for how many players are online and how long they play per session. This is a number that companies use to justify servers, resources, devs, bonuses etc..
Many of bungies choices are dictated by business models and game theory and formulas to keep people playing, I am guessing the vendors is one of these.
The point is that making vendors relevant again would also make legendary marks relevant again. Therefore more reasons to do more stuff in destiny.
Like I said, I believe the biggest value of such a change is to make the gameplay loop more interesting/rewarding and therefore making people play the game more.
Or to put it another way. If your goal is to make people grind, then giving them a taste of what they get at the end is usually the best way to get them going.
F. ex one could argue that once you buy the palindrome there is no more point in accumulating legendary marks because there is nothing else of value to buy. In effect making you play less.
Yes grinding for faction packages for a chance roll does have the potential to reward you for your efforts. However that usually leaves you doing very specific activities. Again what I am trying to put forth is the idea that such a change would not necessarily make loot more accessible. Rather that it would give a wider breath of the gameplay loops created by bungie worthwhile for people to participate in.
The idea that a god roll can come on a vendor is all well and cool. And like I said in my original post, it does have the potential to change the meta more dynamically. However my main reason behind it is still giving us as players more reasons to play the game.
I also have very little trust in Bungie's ability to make sound decisions based on business models and game theory seeing as they seemingly decide to go against trends in both those areas for no apparent reason.
Well put. Yes, I agree with you. The marks and spending of the marks, and how you get them if Bungie took your advice/comment here would definitely make the reward for effort part much better and you could enjoy getting marks and spending them.
