I'm going to explain why you get nothing. On normal every checkpoint gives you moldering shards. You can only get the moldering shards once per week per character, doesn't matter what difficulty you do it on. So if you do a normal run before hard run you will not get any moldering shards on hard. So whenever you get nothing from a loot drop it means that it would've been moldering shards
