The quest was a joke. And the weapons a joke.
All the hype and drama built up around what turned out to be nothing more than a normal quest line with nothing new and a weapon that's nothing all that special.
Hopefully this will teach all the players that if you expect something special or nice from Bungie you're going to be let down.

Or that if you expect other people to live up to what YOU imagine, you will disappoint yourself. Bungie didn't "hype" this weapon. We did. ...and now (after letting our imaginations run wild) we want to get mad at Bungie for not living up to what we imagined. Bungie made no claims that SS was going to be some sort of God Gun.
