Yeah the weapons are pretty solid, I use my messenger more than any gun right now. I don't feel you have to be tier 1. I'm a decent player and I managed to go flawless on all my characters at least once. Sometimes I played well, and other times I was a scrub lol.

I honestly don't believe year one weapons will be useless. I also be there will be a way to upgrade them to keep them viable for level 40 activities. I held on to all my VoG gear and it paid out. I am hanging on to every year one weapon through TTK, hoping they will persevere.
