There was a time when I would've laughed at this for being an obvious troll.
And then they took down the servers for the exact length of time that their twitch reveal occurred. And never posted any update info.
I'm not laughing anymore.

Prison of Elders reveal. They took down the servers for the entire length of the reveal, then shortly after the reveal finished, server functionality was fully restored, with absolutely zero acknowledgement or explanation from the Bungie team. Yup.

Go have a look at the Bungie Help twitter... You'll see a stream of tweets saying that the maintenance was for loading 1.2.0 onto the back end so they could switch it on later. It was all over that twitter account on May 7. And it was on Bungie's main twitter account...

You use Bungie.net, and on the right hand side of the front page...is a Twitter Feed. There is also a Twitter feed on the Bungie Help page. Just saying is all. As for the timing, why not do it during a reveal? People will be watching it, so take the game offline and do some work while people are watching the new content stream.

Fair enough. Except that a lot of us couldn't sit through the content stream because a certain... person RIPed my ears. Would've been nice to have been able to actually play the game they were hyping, but instead they decided that artificially inflating their viewer numbers was more important. You can't tell me that the timing wasn't deliberate (Unless they truly don't give a -blam!-). The downtime wasn't anywhere near off-peak hours, which is when these sorts of non-user-side patches are SUPPOSED to be pushed.

Interesting that you say that... I dunno if you know megamanexe, but he's the guy responsible for the most well-known xur datamining... well, he posted here : http://redd.it/35pqc6 that he's retiring from Destiny due to the decline of the Destiny community in Japan. I don't think it's necessarily as global a game as you think, although I'd love to see hard stats on that, even if they disprove me. I just don't think 2 - 3 PM EST is a time I've ever seen a game company push server updates at, especially with such a large American playerbase. I think we can agree that they probably didn't account for a lot of stuff. #bungipls
