They serve the same purpose but IEDs are stupidly more powerful. A 360 sphere around the thing is the kill zone, where a claymore is set off in a direction where it had to be placed. IEDs are as fire-and-forget as they come.

No. Hell no. A claymore in CoD is a defensive weapon used by campers and snipers to protect their asses so no one comes up and tears them a new one while they are camping. I.E.Ds are different. They aren't just placed to protect campers. They are placed EVERYWHERE. People place those little [u]f[/u]uckers anywhere on the map where people walk and just forget about them so they can get a free kill. It's like motion detecting C4. How [u]f[/u]ucking unfair is that? At least claymores were directional. Pussybombs are omnidirectional, their warning time is shorter, and their blast radius is massive. That paired up with the ridiculous blast physics in the game make it one hell of a cluster[u]f[/u]uck.
