WWI wasn't started because of an assassination. The biggest reason that it started was the imminent downfall of the Ottoman Empire and countries scrambling to pick up the pieces for themselves

The assassination was the spark that ignited the powder keg. As I mentioned, WWI likely would have happened anyways, but it would have required a different spark, either the Archduke's assassination at a later date or maybe something else entirely.
