I’m not sure why boycotts are necessary for video games. If you’re not enjoying a game, surely you’ll be buying/playing less naturally as a result. No boycott needed.
Bungie/Sony sees what you spend money on and how that correlates with time spent in the game. I’m sure they’ll also look at feedback to gain some context for their data.
The only way a boycott makes sense to me is for people who are going to keep playing regardless, but want to send a message. The problem is Bungie will very quickly see it’s only a temporary blip in their data and so how badly are you twisting their arm with a boycott? Enough to make big changes? I doubt it.
TLDR: keep it simple, play what you enjoy and don’t stress about a fun hobby.

The goal of a boycott isn’t just to incite change, but to show that we, as a community, really do want to play and enjoy the game, but we need to be heard for that to happen. The numbers have declined drastically over the years, and yet content is regressing. If we just stop playing, they’ll just give up on the game. We need to, as a community, force them to listen in hopes of a better outcome.

Declined player count can be perceived as lack of interest, so the company might be more inclined to make rash decisions or even extreme changes (bad and good) to get people talking/playing. Bad press is still press. However, a deliberate, community oriented boycott, from my perspective, would show direct desire to play the game, and could force them to actually take us seriously instead of having a "well they're gonna stop playing anyway" mentality. Or it could do absolutely nothing, but I think it would be worth a shot

According to your OP, it seems it already has:
And yet, for most players (the ones that still play), our day-to-day is spent regretting our experience more than enjoying it.
That seems like a bad way to play video games to me.

I spent enough hours on this game to earn the right to hate on Destiny while also calling it my favorite game in the same breath. In a perfect world, bungie listens to its fanbase and the game improves because of it. That’s the ultimate goal for me. But I won’t lie and say I wasn’t relieved to not feel like I had to play it from time to time
