Bungie themselves said that it is [i]not[/i] an MMO (saying they enjoy the debate about how it is classified), but it is being treated as one. While destiny is categorically NOT an mmo as you rightly stated the subscription side aspect I believe remains! For destiny to keep making money every year for a 10 year experience you as a player cannot be as selfish as to expect free updates and Dlc which cost money to develop in the first place. And while yes most of the dlcs have been overpriced and underwhelming for a 3 year experience no too bad. Cod releases every year and costs $60 so over 3 years that's $180 to keep up. I didn't buy the taken king until April and I know how much I couldn't do and was locked out from but I didn't own the content I wanted to play so why should I have the right to play it?

The difference with call of duty is that you can still play the base game after dlc releases. The multiplayer layout does not change the game modes you could play originally because a new dlc came out. It mostly remains the same plus the dlc maps. Destiny (as shown in the video) locks you out previous dlc maps that you have paid for and changes the interface so that you cannot play the crucible game modes without the dlc (most of which you had access to before).
