It was brought to my attention by another user's comment on a post that this toaster doesn't only look cheap and low quality. But it is literally available on Alibaba for £5.66 per toaster.
It has a minimum order of 1000 toasters and they come with a custom logo. If it isn't that exact toaster then they've almost definitely copied it.
To sell any toaster for $84.99 is ridiculous. But to sell a toaster that cost £5.66 for that much is pure insanity and greed. And only ten percent of that goes to charity. Per toaster sold, Bungie is making $68.62 profit and St. Jude only gets $8.50.
I don't know about everyone else, but to me this doesn't exactly scream the word "charity". It took this long to bring out the toaster and it's just some cheap stock toaster with a logo slapped on the side which costs consumers over 10x what it cost to produce.
For anyone interested the link to the Alibaba toaster is here
And here's the link to the jotunn toaster
Edit: it's even worse, it can be found for £0.59 on Alibaba as well.

3 RepliesStupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid people throwing money at a clear scam... I hope they always come out with burnt toast.
-
if they sell it for $30 and give 50% to charity more people would buy it and the charity would get alot more of money
-
2 RepliesOnly 10% of profits to charity? What the hell? They can make all the low-quality overpriced meme toasters they want, but they’re seriously pretending to do this for charity when 90% of the profit’s going straight back to them? I get recouping the costs of manufacturing and shipping; that’s totally fair and expected. But this is actively profiting off of their fanbase’s good will. To anyone planning on buying this, please don’t. Just buy another cheap green toaster and slap a Rasmussen Clan sticker onto it. If you’re feeling generous, donate the rest of the money you would have spent to St. Jude’s or another charity of your choice.
-
2 RepliesThank you for this. They bank on the hype. They know quality is trash and made in China ahahaha
-
£80 for a £5 toaster? Don't care if it's for charity or not that's just greedy daylight robbery. Won't even toast your bread just the logo. The rest of it would just be hot bread

Tip of the iceberg m8 When suits in gaming do these 'charity' things Streams, events, etc etc.... toaster Their making money to go in pockets, plain and simple, it's all smoke and mirrors Never ever ever support anything labelled as 'chariety' in gaming What I do is donate to charietys directly, then i know 100% of my kindness goes to those i wish to help

6 RepliesI like that they slapped on the "charity" bit in order to get people to buy that overpriced, cheaply made, garage-sale toaster. When are these people going to realize they can just donate directly and skip Bungie's hoops entirely? All buying Bungie's product "for charity" does is give them a huge return on profits of the sale on top of a nice, fat tax break when they report donations on their tax filing. Donations made with your money, by the way. Donate directly and reap the rewards of doing so yourself. Don't buy cheap crap just because a "donation" is attached to it.

4 RepliesEdited by A_Hairy_Gnome: 6/19/2021 4:51:15 AMAlibaba has one that sells the same toaster. It's made in China by the Ningbo D0ngte Electronic Appliances Co., Ltd. for $0.81 per unit with a bulk purchase and a minimum of 3630 units. On the Ningbo D0ngte order site, it says 100,000 MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) for Customized units. Which is what this toaster is. For 100,000 units, that's 8.4 million profit less 10 percent for charity. Even if it is for $8 from source. For $85 a piece here, that's still a whole lot. For a sticker paint. If that isn't greedy enough, I don't know what is.
Edited by CookieNiki: 6/19/2021 5:01:16 PM
But it is literally available on Alibaba for £5.66 per toaster.
And Bungie can probably get them even cheaper. But that's not a surprise, all Bungie store items are waaaay overpriced. The charity umbrella makes some people spend without thinking and Bungie knows it perfectly.

If it was a cheap toaster that actually looked like Jotunn, I’d buy it regardless of the quality of the toaster itself, for one to support the charity, and two because it would be a Jotunn toaster. But this… it’s literally just a toaster. I mean come on. That’s not the joke. Looking like Jotunn is the joke. This isn’t the joke. -_-

Lol i wonder if this kinda thing is legal when we got consumer laws and regulations, but wow bungie really showing just how scummy they are taking a 10$ max toaster and reselling it for an exorbitant amount of money
-
This is just the perfect metaphor for Destiny in general.
-
the biggest problem here, are the people who signed off on this idea. shame on them. greed is the main issue effecting the world right now, it needs to stop.
-
2 RepliesSure, $84.99 for a toaster is a bit steep, but let's not forget that the VoG jacket costs $149.99. The only thing Bungie know how to do is rip people off with cheaply and badly made sh*t and charge as much as possible to get maximum profit which their fangirls will buy regardless, and that includes their expansions.
-
4 RepliesLet's be honest here. Nobody is buying a toaster, they're buying an emblem. Once the toasters are shipped, they'll flood eBay as a collector's item in no time...
-
5 RepliesEdited by JackTheRipperRoo : 6/19/2021 2:09:13 PMIt’s look cheap and not jotunn I no want pay £30 extra for shipping and custom charges Oh and All European toasters have an F-type "Schuko" power plug but I live in British only use Type G plug (3pins) no bother buy it
-
Let's not forget that it's €87.99 which is $104 and that's a joke in British pounds it's £75.60 So another $104. Like come on

Edited by Sturm with no Drang: 6/20/2021 5:53:15 PMThe best part is that if you go on Twitter you’ll find dumb af people who have already put in their orders for them, thinking that it actually looks good. I swear, I was wondering why they were more active there than on their own site forums and now I see why. Where has all of the common sense up and left to?
-
I thought the whole point of this was to make a toaster that looked like jotuun? Or give jotuun a toaster ornament in game? In the end in true bungie fashion they try selling you a cheap dollar store toaster with a destiny sticker on it you can buy the similar toaster at Walmart for $15 and put your own destiny sticker on it. Lmao. What a sick joke. Anyone who buys this is a 1st class sucker.

1 ReplyIt doesn't even look like Jotunn. Why on earth would you buy it lol. Suckers. Just donate the money directly to your charity of choice.
-
2 RepliesPeople who buy belle delphine's bathwater be like: "that is a bargain!"

But it comes with a free sandwich holder. That's where the other ~$60 comes from....

Toasters that use metal clips for timing are cheap stuff.

Wow.🤣
