Why keep Crow’s identity secret from Zavala?

“The restless dead” lore card insinuates that Ikora knows who crow is. Obviously Zavala doesn’t know. but if Ikora, Osiris, and The Young Wolf have come to terms with it, why would Zavala be left out of the loop? If anyone would understand, it would be him. It would be out of character for him to do anything drastic about the discovery, especially after he figured out Crow saved his life. I could understand being wary of Saladin and the general guardian population finding out, but SURELY Zavala (in all of his peaceful foreign policy-ness) could get over it.

  • Everything about Crow’s arrival in the Tower is dumb. The fact that he STILL hasn’t learned of his past identity (this really should have happened last season, but dragging it on to the end of this season or possibly longer is just incredibly bad), bringing him to the Tower and hiding him from almost everyone like that’s going to work long-term, Ikora and others meeting him off-screen, everyone hiding it from Zavala like that’s more important than the DARKNESS being here, the fact that he’s a brand new Guardian but he’s partially leading the war against the Cabal... And here’s the best one: We fear that Zavala, the COMMANDER of the Vanguard, our #1 guy, is in danger of an assassination attempt. But instead of putting the whole Tower on alert, we’re going to not tell anyone (including Zavala himself) and assign a single, inexperienced Guardian to be his bodyguard. Oh, and that single Guardian is the person we’re trying to hide from Zavala at all costs. 🤦🏼‍♂️ Like, almost every aspect of it is either a plot hole or something important that happened off screen. It just feels like a patchwork story because they weren’t willing to make enough content or cutscenes to properly tell this storyline. This was my exact fear leading up to Season of the Hunt. This could be the best storyline in Destiny yet, but Bungie just can’t handle it.

    • Zevala is a fundamentalist, everything is black and white, no grey area....Cayde was all about the grey area and Ikora is more in the middle.

      • I hate that they even brought Uldren back with this Crow bs, much less the corny redemption of him coming back as the Vanguard. He needed to be dead, we needed to be the ones that did it with no redemption for Cayde because we snuff evil out. Then create a new more interesting, less corny character to replace Cayde. It just scream feel good T rated plot in a game about serious darkness.

        • Cause Zavala will kick his ass out of the tower, and very aggressively. Then he will proceed to bang his head against a wall cause Mars's gone and now he can't step into a war with Caiatl on Mars

        • Hardly believe that Zavala would be happy if he knew that Uldren Sov came back to life as a guardian, other guardians already attacked and shunned him because they knew what he done, Zavala especially under the stress he's currently under, most likely would not react well.

% Im going to go out in a limb and guess that this is the irony of Zavala stating that Guardians shouldn't discover their past lives before their first resurrection, due to the dangers it could pose. Zavala is already going through tons of stress. Losing faith in the Traveler due to its inability to apparently do anything noteworthy besides piece itself together, PTSD from the Red War, grief from Forsaken, the arrival of the Pyramids, the Guardians using Darkness. Everyone and everything is moving on without him and he can't do anything about it. Hell he had to force himself to find a way to allow Ruinous Effigy to be legal when it was first discovered during Season of Arrivals. If he finds out that the same guy that killed one of his closest companions was resurrected by the same paracasual entity that he worships like a zealot, I don't think he'd be too happy. That would potentially be the breaking point. This could all lead up to witch queen being a year of bonds breaking and distrust in our ranks. It may seem annoying that we haven't seen this meeting between Zavala and a mask less Crow play out, but I think it'll play a key part in story development further down the line. Now isn't the time to open that door however %

          • Bungie would rather write in old men and robot relationships or turn old player favorite characters into bad guy stereotype “bigots” like Saladin in favor of new younger guardians like crow who virtue signal constantly. Boy does art imitate reality or what? It’s so ham fisted it could be from the onion

            • We honestly don’t know how Zavala will react, this sudden appearance of a once dead crow turned lightbearer could break him. He’s already questioning the light and the travelers methods. This would make things worse

                  • Because Zavala is the glue holding everyone together. If he breaks, he takes humanity with him. He thinks he saw the ghost of Uldren Sov and that's already messed him up. Ikora knows the pressure Zavala is under better than anyone else and she knows exactly how he felt about Cayde's death and how he must still feel and I think she feels like maybe its best that if he has to find out, he does so when we're not preparing for war.

                  • 1. Uldren killed cayde 6... You know, zavalas best friend and fireteam member. 2. Whilst the crow isn't uldren, if zavala sees him... Yeah he's going to shoulder charge the crow so hard he leaves orbit. 3. Zavala had to make a decision... Get revenge on caydes killer or keep the last city and guardians safe. All that anger he has said, he would lose it and yeah. He isn't ready for the crow yet. 4. Unfortunately they seem to be going down the, let's make the crow the new hunter vanguard angle. Which shouldn't happen for 2 reasons. A. He didn't fufil caydes dare, doesn't even fit any requirements. B. He is able to hear the traveler, only speakers can hear the song of the traveler. So hopefully he becomes a speaker like character and when mara shows up... He straight up gives her the I'm a guardian, I don't owe you shit line. Who'd be the best hunter vanguard then? 1 word. 1 number. Shiro-4 Caydes apprentice, caydes scout and more importantly... He's experienced in it as he filled that role for us in rise of iron as a general vendor/vanguard link of you will. Shiro is just way better honestly.

                    • Because it'll be a plot device later. The Destiny story is swiss cheese and I feel sorry for the guys who put more energy into being super fans of the lore than the people who get paid to write it. I don't really care what happens, I'm just a meat puppet in a story line I have no control over.

To protect Crow. Cayde was deeply loved by people in the City as Hunter Vanguard. The only thing that kept Zavala from sanctioning our revenge operation was his rigid sense of duty to the City. Ikora supported our wish for blood to the point she was ready to burn the entire Reef down to get at him. Add to the fact that Guardians who should KNOW better can't see past whose body Crow is walking around in....and keep killing him in cruel and (arguably) sadistic ways..... ....what do you think the regular humans in the Tower would do if they saw him?? Amanda Holliday clearly sees Zavala as a surrogate father....and speaks of Cayde like a lost family member. Crow is safe around our Guardian, because WE took his life. We understood what happened to Uldren wasn't entirely his fault....and we've spent enough time around The Crow to understand (at a gut level) that he is not Uldren. But to throw him to people who don't **get** this? Who didn't see what a Taken Ahamkara (Riven) DID to him, and manipulated him into doing? Would be to throw him to the wolves. Osiris knows this, and he's right. Our Guardian has forgiven and is ready to move on and let Crow be who he is......but the vast majority of people in the City are still grieving, and aren't ready to let go of that anger and sadness.
