A detailed guide to getting light!

Hello clan mates, having a high light level in destiny is always a must. People use it to determine skill and how experienced a player is, but how can I maximise my rank to the best of my capability? Well since you asked in going to tell you how, with some simple steps I took in getting thus far (307 light). Before we start if you are not already rank 40 don't bother with this. You're still developing your rank so worrying about your light level isn't really a major issue for you yet. Step 1 - engrams; It may not come be a surprise I'll be covering this, as this is the core to how you'll achieve a high level 290 light character, as a base to hit 300. The main thing you need to worry about here is not what you get its how you get it, this may not make much sense but I'll explain. When you decrypt an engram, it looks at your current light level before randomising thus item it's going to give you. Now you may be wondering what this means. Basically to stop users going straight from 200 light to 299 from engrams, bungie has a system which gives you an item roughly around your light level. So it could be a bit under, or a bit above. This is a vital aspect of this system you must take into account before I show you how you can use this to your advantage to receive better gear. Firstly if you have multiple engrams you want to open them ONE at a time, and check the item before opening the next. Remember before how we talking about it giving items near your current light level? Well if you do it one at a time and check your new item before moving on. You'll be able to see if it's better, or worse than your current gear. If it better.. Equip it! This will increase your light level slightly and give you a better chance of getting good gear. Exotic engrams: Most of you may refuse to do this and I wouldn't be surprise. But all exotic engrams should NOT be opened until hitting rank 300. You may be thinking. Why? Or what's the point? And I'll explain this as you move on down the thread. Don't worry, I'm not trying to take your glory of having good exotic gear. There is a logic reason why we are doing this. Legendary engrams: Legendaries shouldn't be tossed away for marks if their lower than your current gear. Legendary gear is going to make up this majority of your characters loadout (Excluding exotics). So why would we keep legendary gear it if it's lower than my current gear? I'm glad you asked. Since we're going to be using legendary gear for the mass majority of your loadout you should always take the time to read and inspect the perks that come with this armour. If it's got better perks then your current gear, but it's a lower rank it's well worth keeping and infusing it with your old gear. Having high level and great armour with good perks is a vital aspect to being a good all round player. There is no right or wrong perks. You should ALWAYS tailor your perks to your play style, to maximise their potential. Rare engrams: Rare engrams will be the core engrams used for infusing. Let's say you have a 250 light legendary chest piece with good perks, and a 255 light rare chest piece. DONT equip the rare chest piece. Instead infuse it into your legendary to keep your perks. It may cost a few marks but it will be worth it, rather than having poor rare gear. A good tip to getting good gear is to always store gear you get from engrams which are around your light. So if you are 200 light and get a 201 weapon (that is no use at the moment) BANK IT! Later on if you find a low level weapon you really like. You can use your stored weapons to infuse it and level it up faster. Step 2 - Kings fall: Now at this point you should be at 290 or more light before attempting this part. If not you'll have a really hard time trying to complete the raid. Doing the raid is vital to hitting 300. During the raid you will get weapon and gear drops which exceed 300 light. This is one of two ways you can get 300+ gear (I will cover the other way in the next step). All this step requires you to do is complete the raid roughly two times. Make sure you don't do this back to back. You have to wait for the raid to reset (weekly) before you can start getting drops again. Also note that some raid gear may not be useful to you. so you can always infuse your raid gear with your current gear to level them up. Step 3 - exotics: This is the final step to reaching your final goal of 310 light. At the point you should be at 300 or more light. If you aren't this step will NOT work. If you listened to me before and kept all you exotic engrams this is the time to open them. The reason we keep the exotic engrams, is once you're over 300 light, you have a chance of getting your exotic gear at 310!! Which is great. However you can only equip one exotic at a time. So make sure you choose your exotic wisely, as this will be the one you'll be keeping. All other exotics which are NOT! 310. Dismantle. Don't worry! You can always get the back from the blueprints. You need to do this for the exotic shards to infuse your exotics. Once you have chosen your exotic gear you'll be using. Infuse your 310 exotics into them if they're not already 310 to boost there level. Then finally infuse your exotic gear into the remainder of your legendary gear. I know it's a heavy price to pay to loose an exotic, but it's the one way (other than raid gear) to reach max light, and you can always buy them back anyway (: At this point you would have exceeded 300 light and be well on your way to max rank in no time. I'm sorry this was so long and it may be confusing. So if you have any questions just post bellow and I'll be happy to answer them. Stay beautiful <3
