What makes Thorn suck and how to fix it.
I Love Thorn. It's THE best looking gun in the game shooting it is rewarding and fun. Props to who ever designed it. But it has some glaring issues. HUGE ISSUES.
1. Reload Speed. Guardians are preternaturally gifted at war. That means when we fight its damn near supernatural. A revolver should NOT take longer to reload than a belt fed crew served weapon. Thorn does. Why? Triple or Quadruple Thorns reload speed.
2. The DOT does not reapply. This is an Exotic Handcannon. It is supposed to be powerful. The ability that makes it this is gimped. Fix it. I should see 2 numbers every time I shoot something. The normal damage and the first DOT tick.

There is a general consensus about what people want from a Thorn buff. Then I got to thinking about how Thorn and The Last Word are supposed to be yin and yang. While mag size and reload speed both need a boost it doesn't quite make Thorn a viable counter to The Last Word. So I propose the following.
Mark of the Devourer becomes innate. Mag Size increased to 8. Reload speed doubles. Impact can reach maximum with the right perks selected. New ability "Targets affected by Mark of the Devourer take increased damage from Thorn and cannot resist this damage".
That should make Thorn as good as The Last Word.

8 mag, dot refresh and slight reload speed buff, at least to make it reload like other legendary hand cannons. Although that would be my ideal. If i had to choose one of those i'd choose the DoT refresh!

2 отв.The reload speed is pretty lame, it's not terrible if you have armour with +handcannon reload speed, and are a hunter that uses chain of WHOA! I mean woe. As far as exotic should be more powerful, they just are not, they all have the same damage as legendaries. They just have 1-2 unique properties, and that's all that makes them exotic. Think of them as "uniques" and it's easier to sleep at night.

4 отв.Give it an extra round or two in the mag and make the dot stack. It makes the gun viable for pve by bringing the damage output up but doesn't mess with it being a 2-3 shot kill in pvp. Problem solved, I like this gun, mine is one damage perk from being completely finished but my half finished lord high fixer still drags it through the mud in most situations and basically any auto rifle is better at everything compared to thorn.

1 ответI'm not sure if I'd like a reload speed buff or a mag increase. I'm leaning mag size, but I dunno. What I would really like to see is the DoT apply per hit, and not just once. If I shoot you twice, there should be two ticks of damage every second, not one. Right now I don't believe that happens.

1 ответThe magazine size doesn't need an increase, if that happens, then the last bullets bonus damage occurs less often. May as well change the bonus bullet to a random one in the magazine if that's the case. The reload speed needs buffing due to it being one of the slowest and having such a small magazine. The DoTs refreshing would be good also.

3 отв.I doubt we will see a mag increase; right now in the crucible it takes 2 head shots to kill; even just bumping it up to 8 bullets would mean you could get 4 kills between reloading and most primaries seem to sit in at around 3 kills per mag max (those that could do more were nerfed.) I do think that Mark of the Devourer will either refresh or possibly stack when Thorn is buffed, and we will probably see a reload speed buff as well. Honestly I would just like to see the game fixed so that all DoT effects stack; while playing a gunslinger with Thorn you can potentially cause 3 separate effects that cancel each other out, which can be frustrating. If I hit an enemy with my grenade, throwing knife, and Thorn that enemy should take triple to DoT like in any other game...

I used it in pvp and was fine IMO. Only area that would be really good is increased reload speeds.

9 отв.You know, reload speed ain't that much of an issue if you cancel the reload animation plus have reload speed gauntlets. I can't believe the things getting a buff, I use it religiously in pvp, I'm surprised no one has said that it's OP with its 3 shot kill.

23 отв.I don't think it needs a buff. I'm quite happy with it as is now. 1. Chain of Woe and Hand Cannon gauntlets make reloading a breeze 2. DoT stacks would be on the OP side.

The Devil You Know has become my hand cannon of choice. Is everything the thorn should be, which is why my thorn has sat in my vault since the day after I got it.

1 ответI think Thorn would be worthy of its exotic title if the dot would stack. Might sound op, but when the gun holds half the ammo of its legendary counterparts and has a shitty reload speed, it needs to have a powerful ability to balance it out.
