Why the invisible ceiling

This has probably turned into one of my biggest dislikes of the game. I have loved the gameplay. Loved the team action in fire teams. Loved the exploring, but something that has really stifled my gameplay is seeing a ledge that I know I can get to only to be stopped by an invisible ceiling. Please take that out. If you don't want me to reach something then put it out of my double jump range. Don't put an invisible ceiling. So please take that out.

  • So I guess to be completely clear. I agree there needs to be restriction of some kind. I can see not wanting to let me get to the top of a mountain, and for the most part I have seen a pretty good design on making certain parts of the terrain impassible. Good job there. I can see putting a turn back now warning if I get too far out into the water, getting towards the edge of the map. I can also see making things too high for me to jump to. I think that is smart design, and should be continued. I understand that there are limitations on hardware and not being able to render too much at the same time. I disagree with what has been mentioned about the extra ram needed to open up some of those levels a little more. The biggest thing with the ram is having to render and keep those textures in your video memory and process them. If I can get on top of a building, see that everything is rendered just fine and it still gives me the turn back now warning even though I am well within the playable area is what I don't agree with. I hate to compare, just because I know that different game engines are just that, different. Infamous has a very detailed open world with no invisible ceiling. Just cause 2 has a massive and detailed open world that allows you to go thousands of feet in the air. There are limits somewhere, I know there are, but you can't really tell where they are. I am only saying this to clarify my point. I just think are are better ways to restrict movement. More natural feeling ways. Less obvious ways that will actually add to the immersive qualities of the game.
