To start I have to say that Destiny is a really, really pretty game. It looks for all intents and purposes fantastic. However the environment/world so far has been boring, extremely boring.
Environment
The maps and environments the players play in are seriously sterile and lifeless, the player can’t interact with it on any level whatsoever and nothing changes no matter how much time has passed or what happens. The best example of this is where you can see the Fallen and the Hive duking it out in the areas of the Cosmodrone. Sure they are fighting each other, in the same places however they do nothing else but give us something to shoot. You don’t see which side wins, there aren’t corpses littered around, you don’t see them disposing (or absorbing) their dead and because no one ever wins there are no effects on the environment.
Imagine the Fallen cleansing the area of the hive presence when they win while observing the toxic effect the hive previously had on the environment retreat as the Fallen become more present in the tunnels and set up a serious base of operations. Only to have the hive emerge from right underneath them in a surprise assault which defeats/displaces the fallen and watch the environment undergo another shift where the barnacles and green miasma of the Hive spread into buildings and the general area. Instead we have a few units that run out and shoot each other over and over again where we could have a wonderful, interesting and intricate cycle.
Also there is legitimately nothing to find in the environment except a chest or ghost here or there (and spinmetal) players should be able to scavenge things from dead guardians (not PCs), old supply caches, supplies guarded by enemies etc. There is none of that to be found here which makes adventuring/ killing never ending re-spawned AI’s unrewarding. Scavenging in this setting makes sense and for gameplay it fits in for exchange and glimmer purposes.
The use of only one unchanging map “for everything” should not occur. Ever. I really do hope we come back to earth and unlock even more areas to enjoy so we have some variety but for now we have been in the same map for many separate missions (and raid of sorts) going in slightly different directions each time. All of these missions should have really been clumped together namely finding the ship and the warp drive and finding the hive then activating the array. This would help improve player interest in going back to these areas.
Lifeless
The NPC’s in this game are glorified vending machines or seemingly do nothing at all. They have exceedingly little substance with only a fragment of personality given in their dialogue, I have no reason to care about the various groups that have vendors in the game or their views as their missions consist of two sentences in free mode that involve collecting or killing things that have no impact on their dialogue, actions or environment. What you do is folded out of existence never to be heard again until you repeat that same mission
and considering we just came back from the dead this is the perfect opportunity to allow the player to ask questions or inform us of these things while interacting with characters we will be seeing often.
Your enemies have no purpose whatsoever. They stand around, looking around places for no reason and then defend them to the death like they are somehow important (none of them actually run away or escape). Killing on sight is ok for some but the Fallen are a hit and run race that are supposed to utilise agility to fight yet they stand out in the open most of the time and are not agile in any sense of the word (they can also scale walls really well but I have yet to see that actually implemented in their AI).
All in all these reasons kill any intention of going back to explore because you already know exactly what it will be like and know that it hasn't changed since you last saw it.

Destiny's "explore" worlds are beautiful but feel barren. I understand if Mars and the moon are not that populated with living things, but Earth needs some animals or some thing in it that create the feel of a living Eco system (ala far cry). And honestly I am hoping that new planets yet to be seen will include various forms habitats and ecosystems ( jungle, snow, dessert, Forrest, ect) with each having their own sets of life and population on the planet.

I really love this game so far, but I do have to agree with you here. I wonder if maybe there's more to it that we haven't seen yet. Personally, even if there isn't, the promise of a sequel to come is more than enough for me to let it slide this time. It's already miles ahead of what I expect in a multiplayer game, especially a first-person shooter.
-
Bungie.. You need to hire this guy! Great ideas!!!!
-
Totally agree with you, as much as I accept how hard it is to make a really intelligent AI free roam has the potential to be AWESOME and, in the beta, that potential is wasted...
-
Completely agree with you 100%. My biggest issue is with the lifeless tower. Its one of the emptiest, hollowest, lifeless social hubs of any social game ever made, with little to do in it to boot.
-
I completely agree, this game area we played has no soul or feel, but i doubt they will do anything about it this late into development. I feel like this game will be just a one play through with each class and then just another multiplayer game (which worked really well for halo). I hope they take this advice for the next game.

Изменено (FLEAj5): 7/20/2014 10:18:51 PMVery good points, indeed. After I got the feel for this game I started to explore and complete missions. I started to ask myself whats the point in killing the enemy? I mean they just respond 10 seconds later. And the missions just keep taking me back to the same area where i just killed the enemy as i past through and even when I returned. But I can deal with that I guess. And whats up with the enemy just standing around? No walking patrols or anything. This being said, I am very impressed with the AI while I am killing them. They run and hide, and pop out it different spots.

So glad someone else had the same thought as me. Was very surprised how little there was to do / find in all of the maps and also with how little loot there was everywhere. I think the really need to take a page out of Borderlands books and add alot more loot and customization to everything from the character creator to guns to armor and well everything. Really hoping that everyone dosnt get the same stock standard ship as well and that you can eventually actually go inside it and have a look around. perhaps even use it as a hub in between missions or after them.
-
I agree with the whole post.
-
I agree with pretty much everything

Изменено (SBurrke): 7/20/2014 10:53:40 PMBungie seriously has to see this, because the game is really boring from what we've seen so far. Destiny is nothing I was hoping it would be.
-
I agree with everything you state, but at the same time if they show us everything in the beta, what will there be in the final build?? I am seeing a lot of great points, and hope they all are taken on board for the final product.
-
You should say something to deej in the next weekly update!!! I think weather would help a lot tho like rain blizzards hurricanes and tornadoes!
-
People who are using "this is just a beta" as an excuse don't know what a beta is. A beta is when you have a finished product but it is buggy and you want to find the bugs and fix them. "Development" is over. Development ended with the transition from development to alpha (officially, at least). What you're seeing now is basically what you're going to get.
-
in the light of constructive feedback, I do think that the story behind the places we go to see should be more evident. thinking back to fallout 3, there were some amazing stories that were very localised like going into vault 22. didn't have an effect on the world at large but was worth going in to see it. it made you Feel that bad things had happened there. but lets not forget old Russia was the site of an exodus, it was abandoned to darkness, it probably would be deserted. the npcs could definitely do with more purpose.
-
I totally agree with this post because I thought we were going to get more than what we saw in the alpha. So you could forgive the shortcomings because you knew it was the alpha. But so far for what we got out of the beta it isn't to much better than what I experienced in the alpha. The environment is to say the least bland and repetitive and not really worth exploring. Plus it is not as expansive as they described which to me is a total letdown. The a.i. of the hive and fallen is severely lacking. There should be more of them and they should be harder to fight. On a side note they should have moved the level cap to 10 or 12 instead of leaving it at 8. Then maybe we could see if the a.i. actually improved with the leveling up of your guardian. But I guess Bungie is content with insufficient data from a small beta sampling. And I say that because the game has a lot of potential but still has some flaws that need to be worked out. But I don't know how you will accomplish that with a short level capped beta.
-
Can someone please tell this guy that this is a beta it's a starting area wtf do you want lol. In no game is the starting area littered with crazy amounts of enemies or stuff to interact with. It's a taste of things to come. And I'm hungry for more just like you but you can't expect the opening areas to be all out. For a starting area this is perfect not to easy not too tough and it teaches you the game. Just enjoy the taste and when sept comes I'm sure you'll get what your looking for. Again it's the beta don't over analyze.
-
Usually I find a lot of ridiculous complaining on these kind of forums, but this is a very constructive point. I have really enjoyed the alpha and beta, however your suggestions would put this game over the top. I'm sure at this late date those kinds of changes aren't going to happen, but great post

While playing the other night my friend and I encountered the most fun glitch ever in the cosmodrome. The fallen and hive literally were at war the mobs kept spawning (30+ mobs fighting at a time) and would progressively spawn stronger versions it went on for 15+ min. We got our butts kicked but it was the most memorable experience for me thus far. If that experience could be made available to everyone as an event it would be phenomenal.
-
At first I disagreed having better read your point I agree there needs to be more interaction with the environment and more change to it depending on general player influence (more fallen killed less fallen territory or soldiers in firefights with other factions)
-
Well its like they say the game depends on what you do, but doing the same shit over again, waiting for the same social events to start in exactly the same place with the exact same drop rate of the fallen is getting a little repetitive, we need a change
-
I have to agree, yes the game is absolutely beautiful but at the same time it felt so linear. Anytime I tried to go and venture out I would get a turn back countdown timer. I dont get why we aren't aloud to explore. The environment was just all looks and thats it. I couldn't shoot stuff or blow barrels up or interact with literally nothing. This needs to change. You have put so much work into the design and looks of the maps only to then make it impossible to interact with anything. Also I agree with the ai, yea they were ok when u engaged with them but them spawning in random spots and not even patrolling or actually interacting with the environment was just dull. People say that this is the beta but we all know this is the final result. I just hope that other zones have more stuff to engage with.
-
I recently made a new character and walked around the starting area where its all the destroyed cars that were rushing to the spaceport and its just old rusted cars. No luggage, no bodies.
-
Ya its a suggestion dude the game could use some more interactive spots but we haven't seen other worlds yet either.
-
it is pretty lifeless indeed, and there is no weather pattern, and once again it reminds me of borderlands, yet borderlands final product is and was better than this beta/demo I am playing. If destiny does not knock it out the park it will be known in my head as a borderlands rip that failed..
-
there should definatly be more interaction with your environment, explosive things or if you shoot a fire extinguisher that theres some white fuzz coming out =D definatly add some exploration rewards to the spinmetal and stuff. like being able to find 3 glimmer in a locker or something.
