To start I have to say that Destiny is a really, really pretty game. It looks for all intents and purposes fantastic. However the environment/world so far has been boring, extremely boring.
Environment
The maps and environments the players play in are seriously sterile and lifeless, the player can’t interact with it on any level whatsoever and nothing changes no matter how much time has passed or what happens. The best example of this is where you can see the Fallen and the Hive duking it out in the areas of the Cosmodrone. Sure they are fighting each other, in the same places however they do nothing else but give us something to shoot. You don’t see which side wins, there aren’t corpses littered around, you don’t see them disposing (or absorbing) their dead and because no one ever wins there are no effects on the environment.
Imagine the Fallen cleansing the area of the hive presence when they win while observing the toxic effect the hive previously had on the environment retreat as the Fallen become more present in the tunnels and set up a serious base of operations. Only to have the hive emerge from right underneath them in a surprise assault which defeats/displaces the fallen and watch the environment undergo another shift where the barnacles and green miasma of the Hive spread into buildings and the general area. Instead we have a few units that run out and shoot each other over and over again where we could have a wonderful, interesting and intricate cycle.
Also there is legitimately nothing to find in the environment except a chest or ghost here or there (and spinmetal) players should be able to scavenge things from dead guardians (not PCs), old supply caches, supplies guarded by enemies etc. There is none of that to be found here which makes adventuring/ killing never ending re-spawned AI’s unrewarding. Scavenging in this setting makes sense and for gameplay it fits in for exchange and glimmer purposes.
The use of only one unchanging map “for everything” should not occur. Ever. I really do hope we come back to earth and unlock even more areas to enjoy so we have some variety but for now we have been in the same map for many separate missions (and raid of sorts) going in slightly different directions each time. All of these missions should have really been clumped together namely finding the ship and the warp drive and finding the hive then activating the array. This would help improve player interest in going back to these areas.
Lifeless
The NPC’s in this game are glorified vending machines or seemingly do nothing at all. They have exceedingly little substance with only a fragment of personality given in their dialogue, I have no reason to care about the various groups that have vendors in the game or their views as their missions consist of two sentences in free mode that involve collecting or killing things that have no impact on their dialogue, actions or environment. What you do is folded out of existence never to be heard again until you repeat that same mission
and considering we just came back from the dead this is the perfect opportunity to allow the player to ask questions or inform us of these things while interacting with characters we will be seeing often.
Your enemies have no purpose whatsoever. They stand around, looking around places for no reason and then defend them to the death like they are somehow important (none of them actually run away or escape). Killing on sight is ok for some but the Fallen are a hit and run race that are supposed to utilise agility to fight yet they stand out in the open most of the time and are not agile in any sense of the word (they can also scale walls really well but I have yet to see that actually implemented in their AI).
All in all these reasons kill any intention of going back to explore because you already know exactly what it will be like and know that it hasn't changed since you last saw it.

I'll be honest. If this game is going to survive it will be absolutely mandatory for it to: 1-Massively increase the size of the existing maps and add additional locations. 2-Give players the ability to trade with one another. I mean, come on Bungie, surely to goodness you realize that every other RPG on Earth has that option. 3-Give us the option to name our Guardians and customize their height and body build. This is basic stuff here, get with the program. 4-Ability to customize firearms, such as barrel length, color, magazine size, fire rate, etc. This is a major disappointment for such a well polished game not to have such a basic feature. 5-Make side missions actually worth while by giving each one a story of it's own. I'll be honest here, the side missions of Destiny are the lamest of almost any RPG I've ever played and I've been playing them since Wasteland and the original Final Fantasy on up to Diablo 3. 6-Offer reward options at the end of each quest. For instance, give the player the option of choosing between a rare Encrypted Engram or Strange Coins for completing a mission. 7-Make every planet the freaking solar system available for play. It absolutely sucks that I'm stuck visiting the same locals over and over again. It's boring and greatly detracts from the fun of the game. 8-Give us Class Specific Weapons. For instance, the Titan could carry spiked gauntlets, the Hunter could obtain a short sword, and the Warlock could get Energy Gauntlets. 9-Vehicular weapons and combat on Sparrow and our Ships. 10-Raise level Cap to at least 50. No one likes to see there character level maxed after only 3 days of playing a game. It's boring, and makes the game seem generic. If Bungie were to do all of these things the game would thrive and stomp it's competition, but as it currently stands, it's just too dang short and repetitive in comparison every other RPG on the market. Honestly I feel like Bungie didn't really research the Genre enough while developing the game. Either that or they were just lazy, and I would hope that laziness is not the case.

The social hub, the tower, is anything but social.

I definitely want more stuff happening in the open world... Other than a HUGE variety of battle styles and bosses I would like to see many NON-battle events added even if we witness it once in a blue moon like: -Wildlife or Alien creatures running by in large herds, stampeding, loudly -A huge fleet of spaceships flying by ("crap are those enemies, wait no Guardians!!! Where are they heading? Why?) -A huge creature walk by that we do not alert or mess with, just let it pass by or hide! -Large sky event like Eclipse, meteor shower, space battle in the sky -Large Guardian Gladiator-like events maybe with real pvp happening in explore mode or a fight to the death. Or a guardian takes on a boss while everyone else watches or cheers. -Natural planetary destruction once in a blue moon like plates grinding, volcanic-like events or something that reminds us of harsh dynamic universe -Dynamic Weather or Storms that occasionally show up These events would come in to break up the typical explore mode just like a public event but will be a nice dramatic cool thing to witness and say "wow " that was awesome. I wonder what tomorrow will bring. I can't wait to come back or tell my friends what I just saw!" It doesn't have to be constant just once in awhile or even once per day or every few hours at most, we would see something new and epic happen. Even an occasional RARE event could happen each month or two to create a kind of "lore" for players to pass on like "I was actually THERE when that happened!" That makes it more random and we'd appreciate it more. It would also feel more like a living, real world if it was random and varied.

What blows is that you have to fight your way through these corridors everytime just to enter a new map...
-
Annoyance for me is the bit on the moon, you can clearly see it all. A sort of huge ditch. That leads to the other side if you ran across it. But you get out of bounds as if they've gone we cba to fill it anything well make you go around.

Specially the invisible walls are annoying

I read all your post besides the spoilers I know it level 22 and I played most of the game and I am thoroughly enjoying it i've played about 14 hours already and it's only the third day that it's out I do love the character customization for armor and all that I want to be able to readjust my character though like for a hair or phase Unifi have to pay a 1000 in game currency. I love how they completely flipped the leveling system when you get to level 20 to keep the game interesting. I really want to be able to really go through missions I have already done but put them all on higher difficulties and hopes that maybe it makes the AI smarter and that it adds more to the world as well and that's just hopeful wishful thinking. So far the story has interested me a lot taking us to all these worlds but I feel like Peter Dinklage is robot has more character development in our main character so far. I want to be able to feel the emotions that's were one of the shortcomings has to be. Just set my character say more in I know you can't change any cut scenes now. I want to be able to talk to my teammates and that will bring this came to life if I team up with friends we can be in a party no trouble but if I want to go pick up some random people and go play this amazing game let me talk to them. And it will be like making our own adventures! Because really when you're talking with your friends you're all laughing having a good time. Just settle things I love this game but there is definitely some needed updates.

Honestly, I haven't played such a sterile world since the original release of final fantasy 14. That game bombed so hard It had a total overhaul and multiple apology letters from the publisher and whatnot. That SCARES the crap out of me. If Destiny is simply an 8 hour halo campaign with gun leveling the earth may tilt on its axis in the gaming community. And if so it would be the biggest gaming hoax of all time.
-
i dont want say it but red dead redemption had a hole more that u can scavenge and im not saying it should be that much but we re gonna be playin a sci fi alien kill take over everything game so i m hoping for alot more scavenging of special shards or stuff like that
-
They should add animals

Изменено (101WaysToBeBronze): 9/8/2014 2:53:30 PMWell the game is downloading, Peter Dinklage is charging and my energy drinks are stacked into a tower of their own. Lets hope Destiny blows all our doubts away in the coming hours. While I will be on and off during this week for those who wish to play and explore Destiny with me my gamertag is AfroPimp17. See you all planetside!
-
Well most of the vendors have "no personality" because they're usually robots.
-
I really wanted some random wildlife to shoot
-
I saw somewhere on a weekly update once that they said they were going to over the course of the game. Implement changes to the maps. That things would change and for all you know we might just see something like you are saying. For now though I think well just have to wait an see
-
where's that dynamic weather system at? Assassin's creed 4 did it right.
-
I'll be back. ;o)
-
Great thread, agreed 100%. The tower felt especially lifeless, where's the characters giving us backstory? Side-missions are just given by our ghost and then noting, we don't get to see the people were working for
-
Since these are environmental issues it seems like the exact kind of thing bungie could fix with updates to their servers. They did mention things like dynamic weather. So for all we know, the full version solves everything you've brought up. But if not just keep talking about it after the release and bungie will do something. If not now then when they make the sequel.
-
Изменено (Jaymz): 9/4/2014 6:56:42 AMI somewhat i agree but bungie has a lot to learn though going from basically just making shooters, they do not have a lot of experience in other things like rpg or action adventure like CD Project Red, Bethesda, Ubisoft, Bioware, rockstar or 2k to name a few, so I'll cut them a bit of slack hopefully after a while they'll get better, it is a fun game though you must admit. By the way can't wait for The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt from CD Project Red it's a huge step up from the witcher 2
-
If youre concerned about lifeless, go talk bad about Skyrim. Boring and lifeless and shitty as hell. At least the FPS action keeps this game entertaining.
-
too bad no major changes in the final game.
-
I am just wondering has it occurred to you that bungie has been keeping the story close to the chest. That they held things out of the bata such as the animals the posts and what not to make sure the story is kept until full game

Изменено (Bill Shred): 7/19/2014 9:14:00 PMMany people are saying, "Well, this is beta, what do you expect?" I get that it's only a small slice, but it shouldn't subtract from the fact that this is a concern regarding the whole of the game. Will the remainder of the game be as lifeless? I had similar concerns with the Alpha version. I'll preface this by saying I'm in love with this game. I want the full version so hard, and have a feeling it will be contender for GOTY, but... Enemies are boring. They are fun to shoot on a basic level, and sometimes difficult running solo, however, they have zero personality or anything that makes them interesting in the slightest. Enemies should taunt you and communicate with each other in an esoteric alien language. What are they doing here in the first place? There's nothing that gives them purpose. Are they searching for something? Simple scouts? Who is their leader? The ranking officer in their groups should be pointing and issuing orders to flank, hold, attack, defend, or whatever. They seem to only be there to be shot at, respawn, and then nothing more. The environments hardly tell a story. A great example of telling a story through environment is Bioshock. There is nothing that is telling me the purpose of the trucks and planes strewn about. How was this place destroyed? Who was here before? What did they do here? What was it like before? What kind of creatures have made this their home now? Where are the lost skeletons of old expeditions? These kinds of questions aren't asked out of intrigue, they're asked because there is nothing intriguing in the environments whatsoever. Bungie can amend this by having skeletons with arms trapped in locked chamber doors. What were they running from? Why was this person trying to get in here? Or out? Have a sign next to the door saying, "TOP SECRET GOVERNMENT STUFF" or whatever, to invite intrigue. Have the skeleton's arms wrapped around a lootbox. Another fix/addition, could be company logos on airplanes, trucks, and cargo. What were they transporting? Who owned this place? Where are they now? What were they shipping? What about distant billboards advertising the election of a potentially promising candidate for President that never happened? All of these things could paint a far broader, and more inspiring picture of the universe in Destiny. It's lacking hard. In fact, it's lacking almost completely. Otherwise, I still agree with every word you said. There is hardly any soul in this game besides the core FPS and RPG mechanics.

I didn't read what you wrote but I agree there needs to be more happening like you fly in on a space ship that's noticeable why are the enimes attacking us in mass groups you'd think they would see us there has to be patrols and little bunker type bases that we can attack and capture like a mini raid but in explore mode and highest level item you can get from it is the middle tier
