Another great post. I was wondering why the German Panzer tank was always the one to beat. Could you explain why it was a superior tank for much of WW2?

That is a very hard question to answer in a short post...and I think you may have inspired me to make another large informative one on the "Panzer" as a whole. For it is indeed an interesting story to tell of German tank superiority in its many iterations. The German "Panzer" could be referring to any model German tank they produced or even some of the German armored cars. "Panzer" in German means armor, but really when we refer to it in English it means tank. Now, the Panzer had many iterations of itself in the TANK version. For example the Panzerkampfwagen (Armored fighting vehicle in German) 4 is a model of its own, while the Panzer I is an entirely different one, all the way up to the Panzer VI. Each subsequent model was its own vehicle, so when you say "The German panzer tank was the one to beat" it could literally mean any of the tanks produced by them in World War 2. To sum this up since its late, in the end German tanks were better because of there armament and armor, the infamous Panzerkampfwagen VI "Tiger" tank was feared for its long barreled 88mm High velocity cannon, capable of destroying any allied armor from 1-2 miles away all the way until the end of the war. Its armor was nearly impenetrable from the front. Now other iterations of the Panzer models would take me years to explain, but there were many, and they were varied in there roles. Maybe tomorrow I will run down the list of Panzer models from 1-6 and clear away the misunderstanding of the "Panzer" tank simplification in a post. I am sorry if this is a jumbled mess...which it probably is.

No apology needed. I think the "Tiger" is probably what I and most other people think of as the Panzer. Thanks and I look forward to your next post.

Yes, the Tiger is one of the most if not the most infamous tank in the entire world. In pop culture when someone says tank, you are sure to see a Tiger somewhere! It truly deserves it though, it was a mighty machine loved by its crews and respected/feared by its enemies. If you want to watch the only Tiger 1 in existence that still runs on its old engine and all of that without new parts, look up Tiger 131 (On youtube), it was captured in North Africa by the British after a shell jammed its turret ring causing the crew to bail out. It is an amazing thing to hear/see!
