So far we've seen the awesomeness of the warlock with his nova and red grenade thing of death. We've even seen a couple of shots of the hunter showing off his sweet golden-revolver-blow-you-up skill. But from the very beginning, bungie advertised that the Titan's pros is that he'll be able to use the LMG and rocket launcher. There's two problems I have with this, the first one being that nearly every shooter that comes out often falsely portrays the complicated yet awesome LMG. The second is that the premiere gameplay showed the warlock using the LMG therefore taking away one of the two things that bungie advertised the Titan will excel at. I understand that it makes sense for any of the guardians to be able to wield all weapons but it just didn't seem to make sense for them to say that the Titan will wield rocket launchers and LMGs but show us a warlock dominating with an LMG. I'd feel like that would be the same as saying the warlock will use space magic but then bungie showing us the Titan using the nova skill.
First things first, the light machine gun is described as such because it is lighter than a medium machine gun and generally uses the 5.56. A MMG uses the 7.62 and anything bigger is classified as an HMG. The LMG is supposed to give the fire teams on the ground the ability to support themselves should they catch themselves in a bind as well as offer greater tactical use for assaults and such. With a high rate of fire and high magazine capacity a troop using an LMG can provide his team heavy suppressive fire which is vital for running from cover to cover.
To handle an LMG takes a great amount of skill as well as strength. After all, it is generally the heaviest weapon within the team. But a good gunner has to be able carry additional weight due to his extra rounds and spare barrels, keep up with the others, and provide accurate suppressive fire when he gets to the fight.
When it comes to LMGs and games, all to often they are over looked as useless because they are poorly implemented by the developers. All to often they are TOO big and bulky with a higher rate of fire but weaker rounds(wtf?), occasionally they are insanely accurate but still weak, or even strong but inaccurate. Now I'm not asking for any extreme amount of realism because it is after all just a game nor am I asking any extreme, I just want to see the LMG portrayed for what it really is. Awesome. The games that come to mind when it comes to implementing the LMG correctly is the battlefield series and some of the ghost recon games. With the combination of controlled bursts and a light suppressive effect on the players, you can get a good feel of how the weapon is supposed to be and it's great to be able to be that guy with the heavy gun laying waste and striking fear in the hearts in your opponents forcing them to rethink the routes they're taking.
Lastly, my disappointment and lack of faith. The LMG they chose to show off at e3 was a huge disappointment. It held less than 30 rounds and had an extremely slow firing rate. On top of that it was belt fed which is the reason for long reload times. Why not make it magazine fed if it holds less than 30 rounds? Are they afraid that it would be considered an assault rifle? I got news for them, I already consider the thunder lord a slow firing, belt fed assault rifle. If this is what I have to look forward to as a Titan then I might as well hop on the pre-alpha meta game and select a hunter or something. And again, I'm not asking for realism or anything. I just want to see a big, bold, brave, heavily armored Titan tearing his enemies apart on the battlefield with an LMG and really showing the definition of a tank for his fellow comrades. But even more than that, I want to come across an LMG and actually consider using it rather than dumping it because it isn't a great weapon in-game.

1 ответI have 3 theories: 1) It may be that the Titan has a skill tree to give them bonuses to LMGs that other classes do not have. Anyone can use a revolver, sniper rifle, rocket launcher, or machine gun. But respective class has skills to buff that type of weapon. This seems to be the most likely solution. It worked perfectly well in borderlands. 2) Also it may have to do with the exotic slot, like you can equip any weapon to the exotic slot, but only your 'class weapons' to the normal slots. So a hunter could technically equip 3 sniper rifles across all weapon slots, while a Titan or warlock could only equip a max of a single sniper rifle in their exotic slot. This will keep players semi-specialized while not pigeon holing them into their class roles. 3) Warlocks can't use LMGs in the full game and they only gave him one in the demo so that they could show off a piece of loot that could be universally accepted as big-n-shiny. Both the assault rifle and the revolver were normal-sized weapons, and the upgrade to the massive machine gun was designed to tickle the internal loot organ and make people weak to that kinda stuff want the game. Both the 1st & 3rd options seem to be the most likely, but I would prefer the third as it goes well with the personalized loot streams mentioned in the angry joe interview. I really don't want to spend a night playing with the final result being a sniper rifle that I'm never going to use.

Wall of text Also tl;dr

4 отв.We haven't seen the skills for each class yet. Or most of anything for the classes just a little space magic. In the skill tree it looked like there was an increase magazine size skill. There could also be some armor for a titan to increase magazine sizes for say LMG's or rocket launchers. I think that it is a bit early to think that LMG's will be completely useless especially since he was level 5.

I have never agreed with anything this much in my entire life.
-
Ghost Recon is awesome at portraying LMGs correctly. It forces enemies into heavy cover, giving time for your teammates to move.

3 отв.Yo I feel for you. As a Titan fan, I'm going all tank and for any good Titan we're ganna need the heavy fire power. We aren't some light weight hunter picking guys off, we'll be up in the front lines chewing through fallen bodies with extreme prejudice. I want a Lmg that has at minimum 1oo rounds. I want a lmg that at minimum can lay waste an entire platoon of fallen. I want a Lmg that at minimum can out fire and damage an assault rifle round per round. They aren't called Light machine guns for nothing. Not to mention we're mother f'n warriors, we're Titan's, we're super strong, we should be able to use that light machine gun to full advantage, it should not slow us down in the least... unless your a hunter or warlock they aren't trained like that. We are. The weapon is designed for us, the Super soldiers, the supreme Tank, the heavy armored soldier's, we need it to be good. Otherwise i'm sticking to rocket launchers and by god I hope they give us more than a few rockets to work with. On the flip side, this is a roleplaying type action game, you level up so... that means at first you must get lame weapons.... so that thirty round, BELT fed, weak Lmg must be that when your level is like 5.. not when i'm higher level... I want a belt fed 300 round, laser guided bullet hose with the power of two god damned assault rifles, of the same level but then for balance where would that leave the assault rifles? Assualt rifles: 60 rounds, extremely accurate, perhaps having more attachments like grenade launchers more variety such as supressors.. well I doubt we can stealth in this game, besides maybe a hunter that can go invisible... but to be fair to assault rifles they're too popular. That's why Lmg's are overlooked as inaccurate, slow firing, waste of time. When as a Titan super solider an Lmg would be sooo far superior it isn't even funny... in fact we should have HMG's and make the LMG the new assault rifle. Besides accuracy and that's arguable, the lmg has Damage. Range. Fire Rate. Ammo Capacity Arguably Accuracy. and they're more badass. But again because of balance i'm sure we won't see a huge difference besides Mobility against us, perhaps accuracy against us, damage for us, fire rate better be for us, ammo capacity for us and say handling against us. Bungie likes they're assault rifles and unless it's a mini gun I doubt we'll be getting seeing too many LMG>Assualt rifle users. Sadly but I know ill be using them if they do it right!

2 отв.It looks like all the classes can use any weapon they like but check out the link I attached. Its the thunderlord skill tree. The top left skill is not shown in the live demo and is offset from the upgrade path but if you look at it, it has the Titan logo. Maybe HMG's and rockets have Titan only class skills.

Bungie never said that the Titan will be the only one using LMG and rocket launchers so this is pointless

I do have to agree to some point. I think the option of having it be a belt or thirty round drums might be more of a tactical advantage on weight and circumstances. Also Op you might want to break down the paragraphs at points. I have make allot of fanfics and its good to break about every 50 words or so. At points where you feel the tempo change when you make a point. Just a pro tip. Day of Defeat is one of my Fave games as it allows you to use the Mg-42 on your belly with the bi-pod and Mg-32 plus the Browning. Having played ghost recon also i know exactly what you mean about LMG's having that right balance and feel. Father Was in the Military so i got into guns a little but am more of a military history enthusiast. I think if you notice they allow the LMG to be upgraded and improved. I would like to have a bi-pod and lay down the heat in game my self.

6 отв.Not relevant to the conversation, but a lot of soldiers complain about how after they get out of the military, they feel dead from lugging around a 30-35 pound LMG, and in the Marines, Machine Gunners usually have a support member

China called, they want their wall back.

8 отв.Gun nut here. I'm not a wall-of-text reader, I just can't seem to focus on so much text on a screen, so can I get a TL;DR?

2 отв.Keep in mind we also have seen a Titan ground pound. So perhaps he gets space magic AND weapon proficiencies. Perhaps they all do. There was a thread a little while back where someone theorized that even though the warlock could use the thunderlord they noticed it had a pretty low rate of fire with for a machine gun. He went on to further speculate perhaps it required the strength of a Titan to use the weapon to its full potential. Deej commented with something along the lines of "I guess we will just have to wait and see" and posted a link to moreconsoles breakdown of the thunderlord. So there is that. Lets take it one step further...... A linear upgrade tree is kind of dumb for weapons that Bungie want is to make our own. Perhaps, in addition to wielding the weapon more effectively, another advantage of a correct class/weapon pairing is that more upgrade avenues become available. This would allow everyone to use every weapon, but not all things are created equal. As Deej said. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

6 отв.It is not a lmg...it is a heavy machine gun
-
On the Titan not being "exclusive" to the LMG, an analogy if I may: Mike Trout plays baseball for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He is a very good baseball player and gets payed lots of money to play baseball. As far as I know having done no research on him, he has never been so good at any other sport that people were willing to pay him money to play it. However, I'm willing to bet that Mike Trout, being an in-shape man, could still shoot hoops competently with his friends, or toe-blow a soccer ball sixty yards, or throw a(n American) football somewhat spirally if he had to. He's still an athlete. He's probably pretty good at running and not too bad at swimming. Just because he's really good at Baseball doesn't mean that he can't do other things in a somewhat competent manner too. However, Mesut Ozil (who players soccer for Real Madrid in Spain) is obviously better at playing soccer than Mike Trout, just as Mike Trout clearly excels at baseball to a level Mesut Ozil will never and can never reach.

4 отв.The Thunderlord is a HMG
-
3 отв.Well...im about 100% sure they're not useing 5.56 or 7.62 so thats irrelevent. Also thats obviously not the only LMG in the game so to base your assumption off of the very first LMG we see from a "level" 7 character is kind of ignorant ( not trying to be rude thats just the only word i can think of lol )
-
2 отв.I think that all three classes have three weapon spots. Primary, secondary (sidearms like pistols, revolvers, sub-machine guns), and a tertiary heavy weapon slot. I suspect that although a hunter or warlock can carry a light machine gun in their heavy weapon spot, a titan can carry it in his primary spot with an additional heavy weapon in the third.
-
I agree, I like the idea of an LMG being a death machine, hindered only by its weight and difficulty to keep steady. I also thought it odd that the Thunderlord held thirty rounds. Hopefully there are many more LMGs in the world of Destiny, and one of them will be everything you're looking for. Just watch out, because I'll be looking for one too.
-
2 отв.It was a good read. If I may make a posting suggestion: You're better off adding a space between each paragraph, since the forum doesn't compensate for spaces.
-
Every class can use every weapon but perhaps the warlock will not have as many advantages with an LMG or rocket launcher. Or a Titan will not be as good as a Hunter with a sniper (different upgrades/abilities).
-
8 отв.You do realize they have said there are no gun restrictions across classes right? Just saying. And its prolly so few round because when fully upgraded it does more dmg per bullet by alot than normal weapons and for balancing purposes has less rounds. Thats my theory anyways
