Wanna do it ? I teach it often lol...
So, you're talking first encounter.
When the encounter begins, two things happen :
(1) there's a timer called "Engulfed in Darkness" which will wipe the whole team if it runs out. You reset the timer by depositing the chalice in the preserve bowls. The bowls are mandatory to proceed with the encounter.
The Lanterns along the path serve as an extra way to reset the timer if you're not reaching the bowls fast enough. Lanterns are optional, and you must be enlightened to active a Lantern & reset the timer. You get enlightened by having a player take the Chalice from you, once your bar is fully charged.
(2) Each player will individually get "Weight of Darkness" which slows you down & prevents you from double-jumping or sprinting. It maxes at 10 stacks of slowing, but will not kill you. Neither holding the Chalice nor being Enlightened will affect the Weight of Darkness.
There's 2 ways to remove/prevent your Weight of Darkness, aside from getting dead.
One is to be near a Lantern when it gets activated. As the Lantern lights up, it removes your Weight of Darkness, but dont stay too long. The Lantern will turn from white to red then blow up & kill anyone near it.
The 2nd and less-known way is to be standing on a plate. If you pick up the Chalice & just stand on the starting plate, you'll never gain Weight of Darkness. Similarly, if you make it to the end of the path & stand on the ending plate, you will not have Weight of Darkness.

i faced off with crota in d1. just saying that a chlice of light doesnt take away the darkness but lantern light does. i mean dont have no one to run it with. yeah thats cool.

I did Crota for the first time recently. The sherpas didn't say anything about standing on a plate to stop the weight of darkness. One of them did "go ahead to stop the ads spawning." Are you talking about the first place where you can pick up the chalice? The plate you land on, correct? Is it only the chalice holder who'll never (ever in that section??) get weight of darkness?

Изменено (LeluDallas MultiPass): 1/6/2026 3:40:17 AMYes, the first plate that you land on. No, it doesn't matter whether you're holding the chalice or not. No one gets weight of darkness while on the plate. TBH, most ppl dont know this info, and even if they did, they probably wouldnt mention it cuz its only useful if you're attempting the FeatherLight Triumph for the raid title. Avoiding the Weight of Darkness doesnt stop the Engulfed in Darkness wipe timer... you still need to leave the plate to preserve the chalice & reset the timer. Edit to add : if they went to "despawn the adds" and just sat on the final plate for the whole encounter, they were not doing it correctly. I see this all the time & have to tell ppl that when you properly despawn, you hit the sweetspot then go back down to help your team.

The player did come back to join the rest of us. They met us as we were partway through. We did have both an arc soul warlock and a prismatic buddy warlock with us, so the ads weren't too annoying.

The only way to get rid of weight of darkness is to be standing next to a lit podium. Once you build the bridge at the end everyone loses weight of darkness
The only way to get rid of weight of darkness is to be standing next to a lit podium. Once you build the bridge at the end everyone loses weight of darkness
Not true. Add me if you want me to show you. If you start the encounter, pick up the Chalice, and walk back to the starting plate, you will lose your Weight of Darkness. You can stand there & get enlightened while never getting Weight of Darkness. Its literally the strategy I used when I completed the Featherlight triumph: "complete the encounter without letting any player reach 10 stacks of Weight of Darkness".

Thats good for triumphs, waste of time for a normal run though
Thats good for triumphs, waste of time for a normal run though
Yes. I literally mentioned in my reply that its not well-known cuz its only used for triumph... but the question was not about whether its useful. The question was how is it possible to avoid Weight of Darkness. You said the ONLY way is to stand by a lit podium. That is incorrect... so I corrected you. Not debating you on its usefulness, just making sure ppl have correct info.
