Solstice 2025 should’ve been a win. It’s one of Destiny 2’s most recognizable annual events—meant to bring the community together not spotlight the growing divide between the most dedicated players and everyone else. But this year, it’s doing exactly that.
The problem isn’t just the presence of Tier 5 gear or how Distorted Solstice Engrams tie into Caldera completions. It’s that your chances of getting Tier 5 rewards scale with your power level, and, once you hit 400, those drops become guaranteed. Caldera runs are quick—only a few minutes each—so for anyone already at 400, it’s essentially a loot loop with high-end rewards on tap. But for everyone else, even those above 300, Tier 5 drops are inconsistent and often rare.
That means most players—especially those with limited playtime—are running the same activity, putting in real effort and walking away with a fraction of the rewards, all because they haven’t hit a power level that requires well over 100 hours of grind to reach just a few weeks into the season.
It’s not that high-level players shouldn’t be rewarded; but, when that reward becomes exclusive and the grind to access it is this steep, it sends the wrong message. The system isn’t rewarding strategy, engagement or smart play—it’s rewarding time. That’s a tough sell to anyone trying to balance Destiny with a full-time job, a family or anything resembling a normal schedule.
That’s not good design; it’s a structure that favors availability over everything else, creating a real gap—not just in gear but in how people feel about playing the game. Plenty of players are showing up consistently, doing what they can and still falling behind. Over time, that doesn’t just lead to burnout—it leads to disengagement.
Solstice used to be the kind of event that brought everyone back. This year, it’s become a snapshot of a larger problem: Destiny 2 is leaning too hard into time-based progression, and it’s pushing out the casual and mid-core players who’ve helped keep this game alive for years.
If Bungie wants Destiny’s future to feel welcoming and sustainable, reward systems need to scale in a way that’s fair so players don’t feel punished for having a life. As it stands now, Solstice 2025 risks leaving a huge part of the community behind, not because they don’t care about the game but because they simply can’t grind fast enough to matter.

They only want players who put in 20 hours a week. That is why most of the players dipped.

I get what you are saying. In my opinion, this system boils down to rewarding large amounts of time spent in tedious activities rather than skill. It can be argued that skill also comes through a lot of playtime and combat however grinding solo ops is not nearly as challenging as something like a gm(which I sorely miss).

8 отв.200-400 was about 20hrs playtime in Portal. Optimize your runs, and reduce difficulty as much as possible by using player stakes before increasing the negative delta, and you can easily setup B+ with more than half the final bar and complete with with A reward. It is not nearly as time consuming to get to 400 as I had initially thought. You just need to put in the legwork. I waited a week to prioritize the power grind because Mayhem was on offer during week 1. So I basically started a week late, and hit 400 on Friday week 2. I work, and have limited playing hours, so I optimized as much as possible to not waste much time while I was playing. Aim for high B+ in Solo or Pinnacle Ops mod setup. Fireteam Ops I prefer to target A because the scaler is bad (enemy kills needed for points). Avoid matchmade if you can, customize as you need so its much easier. 1. Use focus drops for the lowest slot, play whichever playlist has the slot that you need. 2. if no focus drop and you are stuck on a piece of armor that just wont drop, buy from Zavala for a token. Dont spend needlessly, as these are power drops used to get you over a hurdle. 3. Use Solstice armor unlocks the same way. They are power drops, so only unlock them when they are needed for that slot. This is a catchup mechanic, like IB was for the Forever 29 folk (like me). 4. Use "new gear" in every slot if you can, or have at most 2 not used. 5. Infuse only into the same armor or weapon, save the cores 6. Do not masterwork lower tier armor, it will just be replaced as you increase and prisms/shards are harder to come by

2 отв.Tier 5 gear should drop for everyone. It’s a limited time event. Make it rewarding for all.

6 отв.You're wrong

6 отв.So you’re saying it’s not fair that higher power players are getting exclusive loot per say? This isn’t a socialist game, everyone gets loot and the quality of their loot base on time investment, skill and RNG slot machine. Even if you’re not getting t5 at least you’ll be getting t4 a lot sooner and more consistent than before. Enjoy what you get don’t throw a hissing fit.

11 отв.Yeah well because I'm guardian rank 9 all of my drops yesterday was tier 5 from the solstice engrams. I got one tier 5 leg armor I got the grenade launcher and the SMG to drop as a tier 5. I think the problem is you don't understand that our guardian rank is tied to our drops just like the reward store it literally says that the max is tier 4 and that it's tied to your garden rank. Not to mention I got these drops from doing the solo kepler lost sector on grandmaster 400 version only Solstice modifiers.

4 отв.Solstice 2025 is a win. They don’t give loot people whine, they give loot people whine. I can guarantee you one thing, if you don’t find the game enjoyable now, having full tier 5 gear is not gonna change a thing for you. You’re just gonna get bored in style :). Past Tier 3 there is a diminishing return to the enhanced perks.

This is only my second Solstice, but it's already better than the repetitive dreck we did last year. I got tired of the same voice lines at the beginning and end of every run and was playing with the sound muted by the third day. This time we can do solo, cooperative or PVP to rank up and I'm doing that anyway so that's a plus for me.

17 отв.I can appreciate your feelings on this issue as the grind can be tedious and annoying. However, gear tiers, light levels, and weapon perks are not a competition between players. Play how you want to play with the time you have. Stop putting these unnecessary expectations on yourself and just enjoy playing the game whether you purchased it or not. Most of the criticism associated with the power grind has more to do with a player's unreasonable expectations of keeping up with others rather than the actual progression. Stop worrying about how others play and enjoy the game, just do you.

Ppl playing Solstice again is why Bungie doesn't care and knows they can get away with just about anything. You are the must -blam!- community and yet you still keep playing.
