I've always loved both for as long as I can remember, but sonic clears easily
I ain't ever seen Mario on a skateboard or (official) art of him holding a guitar, and sonic always had that "2cool4school" vibe

I ain't seen Sonic in a work outfit, Mario isn't just fighting monsters he's clearing them from pipes since he is a plumber, he also gets paid in gold coins.
