If you do not get the new Hawkmoon quest from Crow, you can farm them infinitely

It is as the title says. If you go straight to the Harbinger mission location and launch the mission without getting the quest from Crow, and then complete it, you will get 1 Hawkmoon. If you then repeat the mission on the same character, you will get another Hawkmoon. I farmed 5 Hawkmoons on one character through this method. At the time, I thought this was intended. Then, one of my friends got on to do the mission with me and he told me Crow had a quest for it, so I went and picked it up. I finished the Harbinger mission again and got 2 Hawkmoons. My friend went to change characters, but I told him "no, you don't have to change characters. Bungie made it so we can farm it infinitely". We both went back into the mission, completed it, and... we didn't get a Hawkmoon. I obviously know now that the infinite farm is a bug, but I question why. Now that I have completed the legitimate farm on all 3 characters for the week, I have received 11 Hawkmoons. None of them are god rolls. Some are good rolls, but not god rolls. The perk pool is large enough that it is rare to get a god roll, so why can we not farm this infinitely. The mission is more fun and more engaging than the actual seasonal activity, and I would have no problem hopping on every day and farming 1 or 2 Hawkmoons. Instead, we are locked to 6 a week. It just seems counterintuitive that a bugged method of farming that doesn't involve the quest is more incentivizing and rewarding than the intended farming method that includes a quest. What are everyone's thoughts on this?
