So sun setting is happening and nothing we say will prevent it. However I suggest a bandaid for this to help pacify the community. I suggest that the idea of a weapon/armor no longer dropping after sunset remain the same, however, starting at season of the undying, if u masterwork a weapon that was sunset or about to be sunset, the max power level is extended by 1 and only 1 season. This will protect players that like a particular weapon type. For example there is only 1 150 legendary energy hand cannon. If none drop in the next 2 season, or are raid exclusive and u are unable to do raids, then u are fine for 1 more season with jack queen king. This incentivizes players to masterwork weapons or armor knowing that they get a little more time. I feel this is a good compromise considering how expensive masterworking can be. Especially for armor.

Why should they try to pacify the community? They community throw a tantrum anytime a new change is announced. Nerf to super exotics? 30 days of whining until they finally implemented it. Then people more or less stopped. Same with armor 2.0. It was the worst change ever, now you’ll be hard pressed to find an active player not using armor 2.0. The same thing happened in D1’s Taken King sunsetting. How dare bungie power cap by gjallarhorn, I spent 1000+ hours trying to get it. Then as soon as the Taken King launches it was a dead topic. In short: the community has no idea what it wants and bungie has a track record of doing that the community find awful, only for them to basically immediately accept it once the changes actually take effect. Notice how much the conversation around sunsetting has died out from May. Anti Sunsetting Posts were getting 500-1k likes back then. Now they’re hard pressed to get to 50-100. They use to cover the forums now I see one every now and then, and sometimes I go days without seeing them. What does that mean? Likely that what I described above is already beginning to happen. Players are beginning to accept the changes sunsetting will bring.

No. If you let the camel’s nose under the tent, you’ll eventually have the whole animal in there with you.. ...and we’re back where we started. Every weapon has to drop with a fixed item-level/infusion cap. No exceptions. One you start making an exception in one case. People will start crying how unfair it is that their favorite toy isn’t getting the same treatment, and we’re back where we started. Either Bungie caving. Or having to do what they are doing now: setting a firm boundary and telling us that we can’t have it.

And then at the end of the next season the players will want it extended once more.
