You have any metrics, or is this just all anecdotal?

I mean, look them up yourself. Destiny Tracker and Guardian.gg can give you the big picture. Trials Report also does a really good breakdown. Every weekend in a row Hard Light has had more than double the amount of kills than any other primary.
-
Right, but I can't see last year during HC meta stats right now. Just current. I don't remember it being all that different really. The portion where I do see a bit of difference is specifically with hard light and such isn't specifically auto-meta, it's the ricochet rounds.

Well on guardian.gg you can go back a certain period of you play with the dates. Long story short, in the past year, hand cannons were typically around 30% of all kills. Autos are approaching 40% or more in some playlists now. It varies with the low population playlists of course, so guardian.gg doesn't give the best picture unless you look at high-populaion gamemodes to get the best data. Destiny Tracker is a good tool, but it is global data, meaning it includes the PC environment. My post is directed at console because the movement capable on PC and MnK is so sporadic if will always favor burst damage, like snipers and hand cannons. So that data isn't very applicable to my post.

Using PS Survival as a metric: The closest ARs have gotten to 40% usage is 32% They're about in line in terms of pure usage on console as Hand Cannons were last season, using, especially considering they've evened out around 29% usage. The literal only reason they're preferred over HCs is because HCs are handicapped on console by pitifully slow maximum sensitivity, meaning shenanigans in-air aren't exactly... Possible to pull off in a lot of situations. If the slow aim sensitivity was lifted, Hand Cannons and ARs would likely achieve closer to an equilibrium like on PC, where it's a trade-off. Trade-off being "do I take a faster potential TTK or a more flexible weapon?" That's why my argument is that the controls, even in the context of a controller need to be made not shite, not nerfing ARs for those of us on PC who are finally getting even slightly away from the oppressive HC meta.
-
Oh no. I completely agree. The limited controls of console honestly make peek shooting against something with more range and a faster TTK way more difficult that PC. On a side note, I normally don't take solely the survival and/Trials stats into account when I talk about stats, simply because the population in those playlists is just getting so ridiculously low. It's just sweat 95% of the time. Heck. The last several players I talked to in comp thought autos were "beneath them" and only pulled one out when they were facing them.
-
Gotcha, gotcha. I agree that the platforms should be isolated when reviewing/discussing such. But again, I posit, do you truly think it's the auto-rifle meta itself - or specifically Hard Light within said meta? I think autos (in general) are in a good place as it relates to HC and Pulse right now. Especially when playing casual lists (Control/Iron Banner) - but Hard Light simply has too many advantages within the meta. Therefore, I disagree with framing this as AUTO vs HC meta strictly (even by usage alone, which we agree isn't the best metric).

Изменено (Wes): 4/10/2020 5:32:14 PMWell, if Hard Light was nerfed, Suros would just take it's place. All 600 RPM autos are nasty. Freaking Balck Armory Galliard is nuts. But, I will say that all other autos are reigned in by their stats and limitations of other autos. Hard Light does not. It has 100 stability, 100 recoil direction, 100 aim assist, no damage falloff, and doesn't even require a constant line of sight. As far as autos go, it is the easiest to use and has pretty much no limitations that all other autos are prone to. So yeah, it alone is a big issue for sure. So right now it is definitely driving usage up, but I must think another auto will take it's place if there aren't adjustments. Since hand cannons and autos just inherently keep eachother in line, I'd personally like to see the range cap of hand cannons reverted, 140s be able to 2 crit 2 body, and a slight adjustment to Hard Light. Leave the rest the same amd just let it play out.

Won't lie, I dig that Galliard =) I also agree that addressing HL will just allow something else to take its place...but part of me does believe exotics should outperform legendary weapons at base (in general) and only skill/positioning/teamwork should be the separating factors. It's hard to say how things can be balanced properly without creating "cream of the crop" scenarios - as they've been trying for 6 years, and I think they've just landed on "rotating metas" as the best solution.

Thays exactly what they've done, and when that practice makes things so incredibly dominant, it ruins the game. I want to play my way; not the way Bungie wants me to.
-
To be fair, it's not "the way Bungie wants you to" it's more "giving each archetype a time to shine". But yes, I can see how it feels that way for sure.
