See, the problem is you mention Gears 3 yet ignore the fact that Gears 4 and 5 exist and do the same thing Destiny does or worse.
I could also say that Halo 3 had the best free unlocks of all time and be right in my own opinion.
The problem is that Halo 4 and 5 exist and, guess what? They do WORSE than Destiny does.
The issue is, it's easy to look at the past to games that were supposed to be the end of their run so they pull out all the stops as a "Thank you" to the playerbase. But Destiny is a game that's supposed to be supported and constantly cranking out content every so often so players keep playing. It's not a solo, secluded title like Gear or Halo, it's an ever growing, expanding, and changing world and that, coupled with horrible changes in the industry itself, is why they don't give away much for free.
It sucks, but it's how things are in 2019, just as how Gears and Halo were how they were in the late 2000's.

Изменено (BC1 Edge): 11/11/2019 8:56:06 AMAgree with what you are saying, but rather than accepting this as the norm we should be pushing back and saying that it’s not acceptable this level of micro transactions and the huge emphasis on updating gear for Eververse.
-
The only way to do that is by not supporting ANY of the games making this practice. New CoD game comes out? Don't buy it. New Warcraft expansion? Bleed it dry. New Assassin's Creed, Gears, etc? Don't give the devs a dime. However, even IF you do it, and other people do too, you have people with far too large of wallets that will continue the vicious cycle and keep Devs doing what they'll do. That's why I say just accept it because even IF you make the change, that'll just cause 4 others to keep spending.
-
I don’t mind paying for games, I don’t even mind micro transactions if they are reasonably priced (and not gambling based like loot boxes)
-
I agree, because they don't hurt us in any way. Eververse is the same way as much as people dislike admitting it because they rotate the seasonal decorations which makes people think they are over prioritizing Eververse.
-
I didn't ignore it, I excluded them because their systems are nothing short of dog shit. I know they likely planned for them to end, but that's no excuse to do worse. It's why they didn't do as well or receive the same praise, because they went cheap.
-
I agree, but they did so as a result of an industry that "can get away with doing so". Which means specifically that enough people WILL pay so it remains profitable to keep adding/expanding microtransactions. However, the industry as a whole has realized that there ARE boundaries (See Starwars Battlefront fiasco) and they are trying to make sure they don't cross those boundaries.

I feel like getting praise just because you go the extra mile is worth more than the money, because then you will have fans more consciously agreeing to support the game. Being a good developer is always going to net you money but I guess making more money is more important than making the people who likes their stuff happy. I wouldn't feel so bad buying silver if it didn't feel like I was sometimes supporting greedy -blam!-. Same thing for gears and halo. I had no problem throwing money at the screen for gears of war 3. It EARNED my respect and my money. Gears 4 was meh and 5 is just a boring joke. I refused to buy 5 and just used the game pass to play it for the...3 days I played it. I played gears 3 for easily around 500 hours and bought every dlc and a ton of skins.

See, that's the problem though. Respect doesn't pay the bills. Yes, it may get MORE people to stay (which should be the endgoal) but if it's not profitable, you'll be stretched to find it in today's industry. It sucks, but it's just the fatcats with 5 lambos that need the 6th gold plated one that makes those rules. Thankfully Nintendo isn't THAT bad, but even THEY are starting down the path with Smash Bros.
-
I was actually surprised to see it pop up with the new Smash Bros. The game they chose wasn't a surprise. It's the one to get away with it for sure. I just wondered how long they'd go before truly diving in to micro transactions. Thankfully it hasn't been to bad with their game library so far. Zelda had some DLC as well as Xenoblade 2, but so far the content has seemed to be worth it.

Yeah, I agree. I HOPE they don't make it a habit, but you can never tell.
